I just watched TVGuide's "TV's Sexiest Doctors of All Time" and I'm EXTREMELY disappointed for 2 reasons.
Reason 1: Of the 25 doctors listed and the list of doctors who didn't make the list, they left off one doctor who should have been included at least in the top 20: DR. JAMES WILSON! How the hell did Robert Sean Leonard get left off the list? He wasn't even on the "Almost Made the List" list. But that list included Frasier? Are you fucking kidding me? As a huge RSL fan, I'm sick and tired of him being extremely underappreciated and constantly overlooked. He's the 2nd main character on House and he's always forgotten about. The list of 25 doctors that were included had guys who shouldn't have made it and/or where played up WAY too much. One being described as "perfect" and he was far from it. Another was described as being Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, and two others rolled in one and that was WAY off. I sincerely hope that the next time they do a "TV's Hottest/Sexiest Men" they STOP overlooking Robert Sean Leonard.
Reason 2: The special was called "TV's Sexiest Doctors of All Time", so why were only men listed? Isn't that little sexist? Doctors are men AND women. It would've been one thing if they had made a "TV's Sexiest Male Doctors of All Time" and then made a "TV's Sexiest Female Doctors of All Time". But this was simply labeled "Sexiest Doctors" but only men were judged and the women were COMPLETELY overlooked. What about Dr. Lisa Cuddy? Or Dr. Allison Cameron? Or Dr. 13? Or Amber? The next time they do a show like this, they better not focus solely on the men.
I'm mainly upset about Wilson being left off. >.< Bastards!

It's possible RSL paid someone to leave him off. ;->
(Of course, he should be in there, but TVG polls and any entertainment polls for that matter are not scientific, nor are they to be taken seriously. I suspect it's whoever's publicist/studio/agent/whatever pushes the hardest...)

Chase/JS supposedly made the list & I'd be astonished to learn JS actually has a publicist. Shirtless Chase OTH - very hot :P
Re RSL - who did make the list?? & honestly, I can understand why he's probably not on it - I personally don't find Wilson in anyway sexy, Foreman either for that matter.

If Jesse does have a publicist/agent, he needs to get a new one. Specifically, he needs to get OW's publicist/agent. LOL Jesse/Chase was on the list at #19. I would have ranked him higher, but given all the doctors on TV through the years, I just think it's nice that House was represented more than once.

HL was 24 so the whole thing is bogus to me :-) Omar was 13 or so. Pfft.

Well...your first clue should be that this was aired on TV Guide. Let's put their programming in context. This station airs all celebrity-focused shows all the time, and half of it's dedicated to American Idol (no offense AI fans). Not too many straight men have an active focus on that sort of thing, at least that's what stereotypes have led us to believe. Therefore, they aim these shows at women and gay men. And what to women and gay men want stereotypically want to see? Hot, hot sexy men. Period. And apparently these "women" are all 12 years old, hence lovingly mature HL's standing and RSL's non-standing at all.

George Clooney was #1 and Hugh was #24.

I don't think the names "Hawk Eye" and "Gonzo" have much meaning to the 12 year old population. Even George Cloony's ER days are way outdated if they were trying to appeal to teenagers.

Those things are pure Bullocks.
In my mind, all of the old male and female cast are pretty good looking. They're so inherently different in terms of looks and appeal though. To me, Hugh is far and beyond conventional beauty which, in my eyes, puts him at absolute diamond status in terms of appeal. There is no one sexier in his own right and no one near as smart. But see, that is just in my world.
extra_cat's world will probably put Jesse Spencer in that spot. LightMyCandle will most likely put Robert Sean Leonard in that place. Is there anyone who has Omar Epps up there on their list? I think he is very good looking as well, but neither Foreman nor Omar Epps seem to be given much love.
There is no such thing as fair and objective judgement in such "contests" and there need not be.
Personally, I think all of the four men (old cast) are fine looking men in their own right.
As for George Clooney, well yes, very good looking and "easy" on the eyes but not attractive to me. Too much of a Dorian Gray.

I find it so interesting that someone of RSL's talent and sex appeal can hide under the radar so damned effectively. It has to be intentional but given his chosen profession (and its inherent reliance on "self-advertising") it doesn't make much sense to me.
(Btw, Laurieislush, that has to be the single best head shot there in your icon that I've ever seen of HL....it's so good my English has gone right down the proverbial tubes. Damn but that man has grown beautifully into his own skin, hasn't he?)
ETA: There really is no accounting for taste, is there? I find Mr. Clooney dull as dishwater and so saccharin he makes me feel like I'm chewing tin foil. Nothing personal to Mr. Clooney. That opinion is entirely my own issue. I am clearly in the vast minority.

I think that shows part of the disconnect between online fandom and the "real world" entertainment industry. Online, people get involved -- overly so on occasion -- on minutia involving a specific plot or word or actor or haircut or God knows what. Online, Jesse Spencer is huge. RSL has a devoted following. In the "real" entertainment world, Omar Epps is the guy people recognize -- though they might remember RSL from "Dead Poet's Society," but that was ... what, 15 years ago? -- Omar is the bankable name in terms of the industry, because he has the movie history and connections, regardless of how online fans feel about him or about Foreman. I'm not saying that's fair, just that this disconnect exists.
My friend, who loves the show but doesn't follow anything about it online, for example, can name two of the actors: Hugh Laurie and Omar Epps.
(Besides, the dude is *hot.*)

faust76 is right that it's all just objective. I didn't think JS was the hottest thing I'd ever seen when I first saw him (given that my friends had told me I had to check out this Aussie god-like creature.) He was attractive, yes. My "type," definitely. But the more I saw him work, the more attractive he became to me because the guy is a really fantastic performer. The fact that he can make chewing on a pencil or making a face at his coffee in the background interesting made him appealing. I like the little scene-stealer.
It's not as if Hugh, Jesse, Robert, or Omar are ugly. Not a one of them is unattractive. Sometimes having the conventionally accepted good looks works against an actor because people assume they got that far on looks and don't conisder their ability. I don't think any one of us would be attracted to any of these men if they were talentless hacks.
I think the people who put together these lists consider all kinds of factors. It's not based solely on looks because no one would agree on that. Personally, I don't find George Clooney OR Patrick Dempsey the least bit attractive. I would have ranked Hugh and Jesse both above either of them because I admire Hugh and Jesse's work and have never seen anything with Clooney or Dempsey that made me want to see more of their work.

The first time I watched House, the only faces I recognized were Hugh, RSL and Omar. But Hugh I only knew slightly from the Stuart Little movies and RSL because of DPS. Being a regular E.R. watcher and movie-goer, Omar was definitely the most familiar to me.

Believe it or not, the only one I had heard of was Jesse Spencer. I spent much of my teenage and college years with tons of pen-pals around the world, so I had heard his name consistently from Australian and European pen-pals and I had seen him in magazines that my pals sent to me because someone else I liked was in the same magazine. I keep telling myself that one day when I get energetic, I'm going to pull out some of that stuff from storage and see if I can find anything on Jesse. I typically ripped out the pages I wanted to keep and threw the rest of the magazine away to keep from having quite as much clutter, so it's a long shot, but one I might take when I get really, really bored someday. I had seen Dead Poet's Society, but that was so long ago I barely even remember the movie, much less RSL's performance. And while I had seen Stuart Little too, the name Hugh Laurie meant nothing to me.
