Assumed I'd see this here, one of those pointless articles from the Daily Mail about Hugh Laurie's misery. I'm sharing the link because the pictures sort of fascinate me—and also because it's a real publication, however superficial, rather than one of those fakey internet-only ones. He does look angry, and I feel I can assume it's because he's aware of being photographed rather than because of some actual misery he may or may not be experiencing, which, of course, is none of my business.
I'd suggest lots of people should comment there on the craptastic nature of what's considered newsworthy.

Psych just had a House shout out. The faux psychic guy put on doctor clothes and introduced himself as "Dr. House, er, Dr. Houser"... so actually maybe that's a shout out to Doogie Howser too. Huh. Anyway he was kind of snarky and faux-House for a minute or two. Cute.
I totally didn't hear him say "Dr. House", I only heard "Dr. Howser". I missed the double joke, I guess. And, actually, I'd forgotten about the Doogie joke what with the "Real Genius" reference later on. The second Sean said the name "Val Kilmer" I *knew* that it was "Real Genius" Val Kilmer and not any of the other various Val Kilmers over the years.

Yeah, he said Dr. Houser, I guess it could have been a shout out to House or Doogie Howser.

They've referenced "House" before (and maybe Doogie, but I can't remember for sure), so who knows. Both shows would seem to be in Sean's wheelhouse, but I would assume that they're only regularly viewed if there's room left in the tivo what with all the saved episodes of "America's Next Top Model". {g}

Shawn watches Numb3rs too, I remember simply because the way they referenced had me rolling.

Please, do tell.

Well, there was one ep. in the first season (I can't remember the title right now) where Shawn was writing on the clear board (or whatever those things are called) and he was writing out some sort of equation. The following exchange took place.
Gus: What does that mean?
Shawn: I have no idea, but I see it on Numb3rs all the time and it seems to work out pretty well for them.
It just made me laugh.

1. I can't even *think* about "Numb3rs" without thinking of RSL.
2. I love how much Sean loves television and pop culture. I also love that even though they explain half of their references, they tend to leave the other half up to the audience.

LOL, that's funny.

I was watching Numb3rs way before I was watching House so the RSL thing doesn't really get in my way.
And yeah, I love Shawn in all his pop culture, "psychic fits", pineapple glory.

I enjoy "Numb3rs" quite a bit even though I haven't regularly watched since season two. RSL's blunt mockery didn't affect my enjoyment of it, but it has permanently stuck in my brain because, yeah, as much as I like it, it's a show about math.

Well, yeah but...yeah. Math is like my natural enemy, watching Numb3rs got me through my last two math classes. I blame all the hot guys on that show, I mean I can't turn around without seeing Charlie, Don, or Colby, it's not my fault. :crying:

RSL mocked Numb3rs (which IMO deserves to be mocked just for the cutesy spelling) but he also said it and House were the only well-written pilot scripts he read that season. He didn't want Numbers because the part (the Rob Morrow one) was so much harder work than Wilson.
amysusanne- 01-20-2008
Sort of. He said it was a stupid idea and then rambled his way into saying that he was going to audition for that until "House" came along. He made some "the other smart show" reference, but he's RSL. It didn't quite come out. I think most people in the audience that night got enjoyment in taking away the "that's the stupidest idea ever" bit based on all the joking about it at the time. It's funny, but even though it was clear he wasn't totally dissing it, he still wasn't heaping it with praise. As for the work, he's made no secret that he likes the light work load, but he didn't really say so much at the time. He said he wanted to be the guy that the guy goes to, he didn't say he didn't want to do any work. At least not wrt that particular point of the discussion. If it came up later in the night, I don't recall it, but that definitely doesn't mean it didn't happen. The "how did you come to audition" portion sticks, though.

amysusanne, I wasn't really thinking of his mention of it at the Paley panel but what he told EW last year:
I read Numb3rs, and I liked that. I thought it was interesting. But ultimately, not a great job for me because it's like...a mathematician kid who solves crimes? Well...it seemed very good at the time. But he had a cop brother, and I thought that sounded kind of cool. But then I read it and said, ''Oh, I will never see my dog again.'' every scene. So I preferred this one. It's a nice side part. It's a good part, because I don't work that much.
