jj! you were banned??????? do you even know why? I got warning number 3 today and cmglover got her hand slapped for wishing me a happy birthday.
Thank you all for your birthday greetings.
Axilotl- 08-31-2007
Hi all,
I'm Axilotl on TWoP (and LJ) but as I'm a lurker by nature, I found the atmos. at t'other place a tad intimidating... That "House's house of whining" is one of my favourite moments makes it all the more pleasing to be here.
It's wonderful that HHOW has been created, where all that was cool and fun and insightful has been retained but where it's ok to say happy birthday (happy birthday Sasmom!) or ramble off on a tangent and not get kneecapped.
I loved the fic discussions on TWoP, so it's a joy that its spirit has been resurrected and is thriving here. I must single out the RSL thread for special mention, I've been in complete hysterics re. the origin of the thread title and the riffs on his unusuallness. Long may the brilliance continue.

Hi, Axilotl, welcome! If kneecapping were a policy here, most of the mods would be two feet shorter  We're pretty laid back and most importantly, we're fans too! So make yourself comfortable 8)

Welcome, Axilotl and thanks for the birthday wishes!

Yup, banned! Yes, sasmom, I was banned...for the "Are you happy?" message in the HL thread that you and few others thought would get me in trouble. 256 posts without so much as a warning and boom! Banned! No reason was given other than the post itself.
I don't particularly care, esp. now that I've found This Happy Place. Besides, I always love to have my pet theories about human nature confirmed. In this case, a couple of them were: that petty authority will always be abused, and that those who can't defend their actions are the most reluctant to have them questioned. I'm not a fan of William S. Burroughs, but I was reminded of a great quotation from him, "What does Control want? More CONTROL!" (ooh, an inadvertent reference to A Bit of Fry and Laurie! And yes, I would like a coffee, thank you!)
With regard to human nature, it's also in MY nature to prod at authority and force it to defend itself, and to point out its irrationality when it occurs. (Of course, that goes completely out the window when it comes to the people who sign my paychecks. Before their irrational authority, I cower completely!)

This gives me a chance to mention what an unrepentant fenian bastard I am.
Today...today...wait for it...Today I wore JEANS to work!
In an office. In a hospital!
I know!
I am just that mad, bad and dangerous to know.
I bet y'all wish you could be as brave as I am.

Alternately, I've never had a job where jeans weren't the requirement.
Criminy. I'm pretty sure there was a day last week where I wore my slippers into work.

Channeling Mr. Kirwan, are ya? :guitar:

Try jeans and tshirts as my usual work clothes. If I get extremely dressed up then it's a polo shirt but alway jeans. I think this a reaction on my part because I had to wear uniforms for 20 years in my first career.

I see where radiosweetheart is coming from - one of my jobs I wear scrubs, and I wouldn't thing to wear anything else (for sanitary purposes). The other I can wear jeans, and usually do. What's fun is dressing up in a suit though - I have to do that for meetings at one and then dash to the other - the kids at the jeans job give second glances then.

Whenever and wherever possible.
I guess I'm not that much of a rebel (at least around here) as I thought I was. Oh well, it's the little things that make work bearable.
I'm usually kept hidden in a back office that people only find if they're REALLY lost. Might as well be comfortable.

RSH, Black 47 are playing tonight at the Newport Irish Fest (in RI). I want so badly to go see them, but, alas, I'm still grandma-sitting. :crying:
I love my rebel Irishmen. Probably 'cause it's in my genes.

Sauty, tiocfaidh ár lá
Jealous, though, B47 never play anywhere around here. I don't even have the option of not being able to go see them.
Feel for ya about your Gran. My ma took care of Grandma for years and years after Gram's health started to deteriorate. As mad as it made me at the time, I look back on those Grandma-isms and miss her crazy old self. She was a piece of work. Which is a grandma's job, I do believe.
I still have one living maternal grandparent, but she's "no longer a part of my life." I'm still pushing for Daddy to get a maternity test. I want a recount.

Umm...I've posted a bit around the forum, but I haven't formally introduced myself on either the TWoP board or here.
I'm ChaiKovsky (friends call me Chai). I'm 17. I work at a medical school, where I am a research assistant. There, I attend grand rounds at the associated teaching hospital, from whence I get my medical chops (and a bunch of cool case studies).
I use said chops on the Differential Diagnosis board, which is where I started out on TWoP. I never got warned or anything, because nobody notices the DDx board. But people weren't playing over there and I got a PM, so I came over here and I'm glad I did. The Hoyay-tinis are 'tinier over here.
I lurk on fanfic obsessively. I actually put fics on my eBook and read them. I don't write very well, but I love to beta and will do so for anything Poeia-compatible.
I'd like to get more involved in the whole House community, and I guess saying hullo is my first step. Umm...hullo!

Hi Chai, welcome to the Whining. It is pretty laid back here and I think you will find a healthy mix of discussions in many threads.
I am amused by your going to the Diagnosis thread first before here, that made me smile :)
