I saw OW on the cover of Glamour in the library yesterday. I admit that I didn't have time to read the whole article carefully, more like skimmed it, but I'm confused. She talked about her divorce being caused by, among other things, her working outside of LA for 10 months a year. And talked about being in 7 movies in the next 2 years. House was not mentioned, that I saw.
I am not criticizing OW as a person or actress, or 13 as a character or her importance in the show, I'm just trying to figure out how she can be under contract with House and leave for long periods of time.
And didn't DS say recently that he would "try to get her to do as many episodes as he could this season"? What the H? Isn't he her boss?
I don't know much about show biz, but is this done on other shows? Especially now with House having to "regroup" because of cast changes, they don't have a commitment for every episode with OW, it doesn't sound like she cares about House at all. Does anyone have any info about her? I'm just curious about this situation.
Good points C.A.R. I've wondered myself how she gets away with what she does. Jesse wanted some time off to do one movie and his request was denied, and that after his role had gotten smaller. OW barely showed up last year, and now Shore doesn't know how much time she can 'give' House next season? Sheesh.
I guess when you look like her you can do anything you want. And by the way, does anyone know if she had to take a pay cut for next season?
She is a big name draw doing a small role on a TV show that is simply not very good anymore. She's a reason for people to tune in, something the show kinda desperately needs
They can hold her to her contract and she could do a David Caruso. The difference is that walking wouldn't destroy her career. This way they get her for at least a few episodes.
And, for all you know, she talked about House a lot in the interview and the writer didn't include it.
Isn't he her boss?
No, he's not. Her contract is with NBC/U, as is Shore's. They are being very hands on with all the actor contracts. This is the same situation that arose with LE, it wasn't up to Shore & Jacobs to negotiate the terms of her contract, it was NBC/U that set the terms they were willing to pay (or not).
Part of this is fall out from the budget mess last year (it looks like NBC/U isn't letting Shore or Jacobs near it), part of it is likely horse trading with OW to get a better deal on commitments to movies Universal has in the pipeline & wants her for. She's a bigger asset there than on House.

What budget mess last year? Did they go way over budget or something?

Yes.
A series of video interview with OW conducted by Jon Favreau,
the director of the upcoming Cowboys V. Aliens. She doesn't mention House in these, but does mention a documentary she directed of the non-profit group she's a part of in Haiti, the film of which is premiering at Tribeca Film Festival.
