*gasp* Not HG Wells. Jules Verne. I don't know if I'd see it in the theater, but it might be fun. It was an interesting but rather outdated book so I'd be curious to see how they updated it. And on topic, she looks lovely. Mea culpa. I've read the book, and should have remembered. (I also saw the previous movie version, way, way, way back when. Let's just say that I firmly believe Brendan Fraser has got to be better than ... Pat Boone. It was on TV. I didn't say it was good.) On topic? I'm not a fan of the empire waist, personally, but that would be nitpicky of me to give a thumbs down to the dress because of that.

It's a pretty enough dress. It's not too different from what would be in my closet (if I were 29 and a size 2) so in that sense I suppose it's appropriate for a premier in a smaller venue of an adventure film. It's a fitting premier for JM, who likes Battlestar Gallactica and video games. Brendan Fraser does pretty decent Saturday afternoon adventure B movies so I might take a look if I've got a free Saturday afternoon. Jules Verne and Arthur Conan Doyle books (not HG Wells so much since Rebecca West kept him in line) had an almost absolute lack of female characters. This doesn't go over well for modern female audiences so it's always fun to see how they put some women in in order to update them. It opens country-wide on July 11th. I didn't mean to disparage the money the BFTV makes. It's just that given the men I know for whom music is an avocation, they will grab any opportunity they can toget together and play whether it makes money or not so I don't consider it true charity work. Likewise getting dressed up and appearing at charity galas is part of an actress's job (JS does it as well as JM and LE) like appearing at designer openings but nicer. As far as I know, none of the cast does serious charity work. I think RSL's PSA's for the New Jersey (?) animal shelters is the closest any of them has come to charity work during their time on the show although I admit I don't follow the actors that closely.

Likewise getting dressed up and appearing at charity galas is part of an actress's job I agree that going to a gala is not the same as working at a shelter, but saying it's part of their job may be overstating it; after all not all actors go to red carpet charity events. Unless the actors/celebrities are the guest of honour, or an invited speaker, they are usually expected to pay for tickets to a fundraiser, which can cost hundreds of dollars. They are also giving up several hours of their time which they could otherwise spend with friends or family. Yes, the actors get just as much publicity out of it as the charity, so it's not a selfless act; but at least they're doing something positive with their celebrity status. As for BFTV I agree that they are doing it mainly for fun, and as an added bonus they get to raise money for charity. I think acting rather than music is the true avocation of most of the band members. Music is more of a hobby to most of them. I certainly wouldn't expect them to pass up an acting job or leave the set early for BFTV.

Tonight's (Monday's) E! News Fashion Police segment includes Jennifer in the gold dress. I don't have the sound on, so don't know what they said about her. There should be a couple repeats overnight, if it's not online. Or eventually I'll get it posted :)

There should be a couple repeats overnight, if it's not online. Or eventually I'll get it posted :) I read this, turned on E! to see when there would be a repeat and it was on -- I had to watch a whole 2 minutes of the show. I didn't get it all, but... Jennifer Morrison showed off lighter, golden locks to complement her bronze Oscar de la Renta ...

house_daily has a new pic of Jennifer at a party hosted by Brett Ratner.

JM attended a benefit hosted by Eva Longoria.

JM attended a benefit hosted by Eva Longoria. Holy sh*t! That was in San Antonio last night!! So, if you're wondering, the event was held at Pedrotti's North Wind Ranch, a really beautiful ranch. My dance team's banquet was held there in 2005. Oh my God, we were in the same area code! *dies* ETA: Here's the story to go along with the pictures so that you can see all the good JMo did last night. :D

"Big Stan" has been released on Region 2 DVD. It can be ordered through Amazon UK. Hmmm...so did this just end up skipping the theaters altogether? That Rob Schneider shine is really starting to fade, is it not?

Ariadne- 08-12-2008

It was released in theatres in some countries but not in North America. I can't figure out the logic of what gets released and what does direct to DVD. I saw Paul Rudd's film Diggers at a film festival a few years ago and thought it was a good film but it also went direct to DVD. I saw a couple of reviews of Big Stan which said it was better than the usual Rob Schneider film. David Carradine and JM came in for praise.

Maryl- 08-24-2008

A review of Big Stan which may explain why Rob Schneider has had trouble getting it released.

For those interested in JM's love life, perhaps the rumors about a relationship with Amaury Nolasco were true. Here they are seated together at the ALMA Awards a week and a half ago.

misere- 09-09-2008

JM attended the Fox Fall Eco-Casino Party last night. JS was there as well.

Photos of JM attending a show last night. It's nice to see her dressed more casually.
