It is a good one though, Troops.

"DDX in Interpretive Dance": Jennifer Morrison I love the Paley Festival clips on YahooTV, and her response to the question "what would you most like to see your character do" is to do "a differential diagnosis scene fully in interpretive dance." I liked her little quip. It would be neutral enough, but perhaps it would be better for the character thread. If you're looking for something really positive, then it could be: "When she laughs, everyone laughs": Jennifer Morrison or "Exuding Lightness": Jennifer Morrison based on quotes describing her from Omar Epps. I think that regardless of our opinions of her talent or her character, the title should be somewhat positive in order for the forum to be inclusive.

I agree. Mean titles are... mean. Beneath us. Because this is the happiest place on earth. I like the DDX In Interpretive Dance one, because that's something she said and sautomne said that's what we're looking for.

Does anyone know where we can find some interviews or something we can pull a quote from? house_daily et al seem to only have photos.

JMo interviews

March301- 08-19-2007

Just thought I'd duck in and tell you that I was reading my television guide and this Saturday at 9 pm she's going to be in a telemovie about Princess Diana. She's playing a reporter who's trying to investigate how she 'really' died. Needless to say, it's more conspiracy theory than actual fact, but I thought I'd let you know in case anyone is interested. I'm blanking out on title and channel, but if one of you is curious, I'll look it up when I'm not feeling quite as zonked.

sautomne- 08-19-2007

March301, feel free to also post that in 'House Cast in Other Roles'. That thread is in this forum (way down near the bottom).

Watching "Informed Consent" and realized how underrated (at least in the online fandom I know) Morrison is. I know she studied and worked at one of the best theaters in my city (Steppenwolf in Chicago). It's a tough place to get to, actually, and it is really a mark of her talent. Laurie Metcalfe, the sister from Roseanne, and Meredith Grey's dad on "Grey's Anatomy" also came from Chicago's Steppenwolf Theater. Not trying to pimp the theater, but I am trying to explain how prestigious it is. I really think Jennifer Morrison is quite good, and that the failings of Cameron are primarily a fault of the writers'. I also think her faults are completely magnified by the anti-Hammers, an offense I'm definitely guilty of. On her own, and if the House/Cameron ship wasn't so nauseating, I really like the character in some episodes. She isn't consistent, but "Informed Consent" really showcases Morrison's range as an actress. She's completely believable. In terms of the character (maybe I should take this to the S3 discussion thread), but I like Cameron the most in this episode as well. Interestingly, House's relationship to her is completely professional. He says he's proud of her at the end. They both do a very good job.

Siriusly, the problem I have with JMo in this role is that, though on occaison she sells an episode or a scene, she doesn't create a consistent character from episode to episode or through an arc for me. Setting aside the issue of inconsistent writing (which I don't buy anyway, I think the writing is spot on), I do think that the acting & the specific dramatic choices are at fault to a large degree. One example, where did the need to play Cameron as a class A b@#$% suddenly appear from at the start of s3? Yes, the egocentrism was there previously, but not the bitchiness at that level - and its all at the same level, no sense of degree appropriate to the given dramatic situation, or sense of subtlety. And I hate that I get this sense of JMo's personal wishes to see the H/Cam infect some of the scripts with the shippiness even when its not necessarily written. Admitedly, I'm possibly projecting there (I have my own biases & I should better avoid the interviews I read with her), but I hate that she's apparently not got the sense to understand the role clearly (pointing back to her comment that Cameron's a role model - "WFT?" & "get a clue" is my reaction to that) and that TPTB have apparently decided to let her hang herself with those decisions. I understand her wish to stretch herself dramatically, but IMO the uneveness of season 3 proved to she can't really carry it & it seems others aren't to thrilled with her work outside House either. The reviews of that Diane movie she's doing for Lifetime haven't exactly been stellar. EDIT - btw, she took acting courses at Steppenwolf Theater's school - she was never a member of the actual theater company itself appearing on the stage in any roles there, that's very, very different to Laurie Metcalf's role for example.

Movies Over...and Go!

310Daisy- 08-25-2007

I wasn't going to watch, but curiosity got the best of me! I thought JM's acting was rather lightweight. I don't really know how to explain it, but I thought there was a considerable lack of depth to her. She was supposed to be the lead, but the man who played her police officer boyfriend was a much stronger actor throughout.

misere- 08-28-2007

I found clips of most of JM's Lifetime movie on the internet, so I decided to watch them. The most exciting part of the movie was when I realized that a British actress with a bit part as one of JM's informants was the same woman who played Honoria Glossop in Jeeves and Wooster. What can I say about JM? Sometimes she was good, sometimes passable, sometimes downright cringe-worthy. Her hair in some scenes was an absolute travesty. That was the only reason I was riveted to the screen; I couldn't believe how bad it was. Her body language was bizarre. She moved so awkwardly in heels and a dress. Arms akimbo and little movement of the hips. I think that's how she naturally moves based on what I've seen on House, and it works for Cameron because she is a somewhat awkward, unsure character, but it really didn't work for this new persona. The film's content and writing were laughable, but JM's weak, inconsistent performance is not competely attributable to that, IMO.

She was supposed to be the lead, but the man who played her police officer boyfriend was a much stronger actor throughout. that's why non-victim of the week lifetime movies are so weird for me. most of them are thin to begin with (even though there have been the occasional well written, well acted, should have been on a stronger network film produced for them), but surprise you because of the acting. unless the actors bring it then there's just nothing there. i know that sela ward's not a favorite amongst the vocal majority of "house" viewers, but one of the best things that i ever saw on lifetime was "the jessica savitch story" with her in the lead role. it was a decent movie, but she and ron silver made it almost excellent. they acted the hell out of that thing. i haven't watched the di movie (and it'll probably live in the tivo for a long time before i bother), but i wonder if it wasn't a combination of miscasting (because jennifer does play awkward better than she plays confident and savvy, which is what i'm under the impression this character is supposed to be) and a fasttracked movie that wasn't ready to actually be made.
