Yes, that's what it means. To get in all eps of 24 by their projected end date (which has always been scheduled to be a two hour finale), they would have to double up for an additional week in there somewhere. Ah, so each one of those weeks that says "may be pre-empted" it means that they don't know which one of those weeks will be the two-hour 24, so any one of them may be the week that it's preempted. Preliminary numbers are out. "House" was down slightly (14.7 million viewers, v. about 15 million last week) but won against 3D Superbowl promo'd "Chuck" at 8.3 million. thrfeed

14.75 million viewers last night according to tvbythenumbers. On Monday at 8p, the 100th episode of HOUSE opened with a 5.5/13 among Adults 18-49 and won the hour among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and virtually all key demos. In fact, HOUSE outperformed its nearest competition in the hour by +31% among Adults 18-49 (5.5/13 vs. 4.2/10 for CBS’ Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother), +26% among Adults 18-34 (4.9/13 vs. 3.9/10 for ABC’s The Bachelor) and +40% in Total Viewers (14.7 vs. 10.5 Mil for both ABC and CBS). HOUSE was the highest rated program of the night among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens, outperforming originals of ABC’s The Bachelor and True Beauty, CBS’ Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Two & A Half Men, Worst Week and CSI: Miami, NBC’s Chuck, Heroes and the season premiere of Medium and CW’s Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill.

It seems like everyone but "Medium" (and that's only if you consider "about average" to be good numbers for "Heroes") should be pleased with last night. Even if NBC holds, which it won't, it's pretty good news for everyone. The next obstacle for the three 8pm shows (GG obviously doesn't count, since it's in it's own universe of irrelevant expectations) is DWTS since even decent current numbers aren't what they'll all no doubt be up against. Could 8pm on a *Monday* night suddenly find itself with the most viewers of any other hour of the week? Okay, probably not, but there's a lot of stuff on and a lot of DVRs filling up. On a scheduling note, funny Josh Schwartz quote from Dan Fienberg's recent interview with him regarding going up against "House": How'd you react when you heard "House" was now also moving Monday nights? I drove to the train tracks and considered laying down on them. I was very depressed. I didn't understand why Kevin Reilly would do that to us. He developed the show. But, you know, it made sense from their perspective and Preston Beckman at FOX has always made scheduling moves to hurt my feelings, whether I'm on FOX or not. full interview: http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/2008-12-6-the-fien-print/posts/2009-2-1-hitfix-interview-josh-schwartz-talks-chuck

Variety posts 16.5 overall viewers. Regardless of discrepancy in numbers, House won the hour virtually in all key demos.

marykir- 02-03-2009

I think Variety copied Two and a Half Men's numbers for House instead of using the actual House numbers.

Namaste- 02-04-2009

House still finished in the Top 10 overall for last week -- which ended on Sunday -- in a week that include two Superbowl ratings (one for the game, one for post-show) and a post-Superbowl airing of The Office.

Chipmunk_love- 02-05-2009

Because of the President's address, the next new episode will not air until the 16th. Fail.

Namaste- 02-10-2009

House made the top 10 again for overall viewing last week, (and was fifth in the 18-49 demographic). It was also fourth most DVRd show for its first week in the new time slot. I'm still really surprised by the success it's had in the new time slot. I really expected viewership to drop with yet another time change, not increase. (And here I'd had lists of epithets to use against Fox programmers. Guess I'll have to use them elsewhere.)

Manu- 02-17-2009

FOX won the 8 p.m. hour and had the best overall performance of the night with an 4.9/13 for "House" with over 13.26 million viewers. Source: tvbythenumbers.

Ariadne- 02-17-2009

House got a boost when it moved to Mondays and was no longer competing against NCIS. But since a high of Big Baby at 15.7 million, the numbers have been dropping (14.7 for TGG; 13.3 for Unfaithful against repeats on HIMYM and Big Bang). It feels like viewers are getting tired although they'll probably SPOILER--->:jump back in for Mos Def.<---SPOILER Mod Note: Edited for big bad spoiler that I didn't know about cuz I'm unspoiled. Or I was!---RSH

The who what now? ETA: Ahhhh, thanks carrie.

travin1- 02-17-2009

Ariadne: That's a spoiler.

But then again, House returned from an unexpected break. I almost forgot we'd get a new episode. The numbers aren't that relevant. Painless, which was the first episode of the year in it's new time slot, got 14 million. Still doing great in the demos though.

marykir- 02-17-2009

The numbers Manu reported are for 8-8:30 only. Numbers went up a bit in the 2nd half hour. The averages of the tvbythenumbers numbers are 14M total, 5.15/13 A18-49, 4.4/12 A18-34. I think total TV viewing numbers were low last night. For example, both 5x12 and 5x14 had 5.5/13 A18-49 in the overnights. But 5x15 had only a 5.15 rating for the same share (% of viewers).

I knew I had gotten it wrong. Thanks, marykir, I stand corrected.
