Hey travincarrie and Night Owl, can you guys keep posting one after another? It makes a great little animation over there with the avatars! ;-)
The 7 minute overrun hopefully will really have some extra minutes of show.
I really hope so because SPOILER I think this episode will be so good and need all the time it can get /SPOILER.
Also, I really just wanted to post to help with Boffle's animation. :D
Yeah, a little OT, but I can't help asking: where the heck are you guys getting all the great kiss icons from? And, does someone already have screencaps up for Joy?
Sure Boffle! You're up, carrie! Then chipmunk!
where the heck are you guys getting all the great kiss icons from?
I made my own icon. I took a screen capture from the alternate-take video and cropped it to my heart's desire. I think there are plenty of screen caps up on LJ though.

Sorry, not strong with tech stuff. What is that?
The Fox site posted an alternate version of the kiss scene. I paused it at a moment that I liked, then grabbed a screen capture from that, and then made my icon from it in Photoshop.
Oh, so sorry, my bad. Had to run to the post office. Someone on lj posts caps of all the epis...will find the link and return to post it here. LJ's had a lot of fun avators lately.
Screen caps:

I seriously need to learn how to do captures. What software do you need? Anyone have any idea how to go about it?
I'm finally getting a decent computer next week and the Adobe CS4 photoshop (and other stuff...one of the suites). Hope I can make screen caps.
carrie, I can't remember: Are you on a Mac (which is of the newer generation, within the last couple years)? If so, your computer came with a screen capture software called "Grab." It's in Applications/Utilities. It's very easy to use--it just doesn't work when you have a DVD running in the DVD player. Grab only grabs the image; you'd have to use a photo editing software to crop the image to the size you want.
If you're on Windows, then there is a keyboard shortcut for screen caps, isn't there? My husband is the Windows person, but he's at work at the moment, so I can't help there. But in my long-ago Windows experience, I seem to remember a keyboard shortcut.
best capture software I've seen is something called frameshots. You can watch a video, but then literally play it frame by frame, grabbing a cap and doing minor editing right on the spot. It automatically names and saves jpgs.
Wow, thanks! I'm on a pc right now, but I'm making the switch to a MAC next week...will hold off until then.
Well, just know that the Grab utility is not sophisticated like the software that sasmom and Hugh_lover are talking about! Grab is very very basic, but it gets the job done.
If you're getting a Mac and plan to be doing a lot of screencaps from DVDs and capturing video online, I might recommend Snapz Pro X. It isn't free, but it's pretty cool. It will take caps from DVD Player, and it will copy any video online - at least I haven't had any trouble so far with anything I've tried. I think it basically "watches" the video as you play it and captures it frame by frame, so it doesn't matter what kind of file it is or where it's hidden in the code. The file size of the video it captures is massive (100MB for a minute or two), but I've been exporting from Quicktime Pro to cut the file size down to something much more reasonable.
The only real problem with Snapz Pro X is that it essentially swallows Grab - once you install it, you can't use Grab anymore (I can only assume that if you uninstall it correctly, Grab will work again). Since SPX does everything that Grab does and a whole lot more, that will probably be fine, but saving a screencap requires three (very fast and simple) steps instead of one, so if you're only a casual user, you might just want to stick with Grab.
One more benefit of SPX - you can save to any folder, not just the desktop.
Maybe someone else knows of a better program for Mac, but I searched quite a bit and this was the best one I could find for this sort of thing. As great as Macs are, we're always somewhat limited when it comes to software.
Sorry to interrupt the software discussion, but Fox has pulled "Til Death" for at least two weeks and will air reruns of "House" Wednesdays at 9 p.m. according to
TVWeek. (Fox had already yanked "Death's" companion show, "Do Not Disturb."
