I think we all know that GA, CSI, and House were neck and neck for top scripted drama last season, but I recently read (I wish I could remember where, but you'll have to trust me) that Fox actually is able to charge advertisers a significantly higher rate for the use of commercial air time during House, which is arguably far more important than which show comes out on top. Of course, ratings do matter, but I think that the reason they're able to to charge so much is that House viewers are a more desirable demographic for the advertisers than those viewers from the other shows.
I just posted about the ad rates in the media thread - House and CSI are both relative bargains at $290K/30sec ad compared to GA at $465K. And 24 and The Simpsons both pull in $300K. I supposed that's for more targeted men 18-34 advertising, 'cause their overall numbers are much lower than House.
It looks like House will come in 6th in total viewers for the week, 3rd in A18-49, unless DVR viewing changes the early numbers significantly. Interestingly, CSI and House seem to be more resistant to the general drop in viewership (which Marc Berman is attributing to DVR use) than Grey's and Desperate Housewives. I would think that people would watch the "water cooler" shows live.
Hopefully the people who watched "Alone" will come back for episode 2.

Fox won this second Tuesday of the 2007-08 season, with a first-place finish in both total viewers and adults 18-49. ...
Fox mega-hit House led the 9 p.m. hour, with 17.28 million viewers and a 7.1/17 among adults 18-49. Second was ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, with a rock-solid 15.73 million viewers and a 4.3/10 in the demo.
So, a little drop from last week, but not as big as the drop off last fall. The viewers didn't seem to move to any other network show - all the numbers seem to be down from last week. Oh, wait, CBS might be up week-to-week.

Futon Critic:
New episodes of "Bones" (households: 5.1/8, #10, half-hour: 9.43%; adults 18-49: 3.0, #10, half-hour: 9.68%) and "House" (households: 10.3/16, #2, half-hour: 9.26%; adults 18-49: 7.1, #1, half-hour: 12.00%) combined to give FOX (households: 7.7/12, #T2; adults 18-49: 5.0, #1) top honors on Tuesday.
I always find it interesting how much of a difference there is in rank by #households and rank by #viewers. Lots of Nielsen voters must watch
House in groups, especially compared to popular ABC and CBS shows.
I wonder how they measure college viewership. Maybe they don't, but on my campus it seems like a truckload of people watch "House". But we all watch it around, like, two television sets on campus. But seriously, we're all 18-23 and I think there's at least 100 a week.
They started measuring college students last season. I assume that to keep the statistics accurate, they would only count specific college students who are part of the Nielsen sample. So if 1 Nielsen viewer watches with 49 non-Nielsen viewers, it only counts as 1 viewer.
If Nielsen doesn't fix their weird new repeats rule, Fox should just run the same episode of House every night. As long as the ads are exactly the same, the new rule combines the unique viewers over all nights and counts all showings as 1 time period. So, for example, if Fox used 5 hours of their 15 primetime hours to show the same episode of House, they would get 1 really big number + 10 much smaller numbers averaged together instead of 1 not quite as big number + 14 much smaller numbers.
To put the week-to-week dropoff in perspective, week 1 to week 2 dropoff (%change viewers, %change A18-49):
CSI -16%, -21%
GA -11%, -15%
House -5%, -8%
Baseball playoffs may have affected CSI & GA somewhat, but their numbers this week are pretty much in line with last year's numbers.
House should #4-6 for the week in total viewers, #2-3 in A18-49, depending on how Desperate Housewives does, whether DwtS 2 hour show Monday counts as 1 or 2 shows, and I suppose whether anyone uses Heroes repeat trick this week.

Wow, you can buy 24 TiVo passes already? That's astonishingly high for a show that's not even airing yet.
I'm a bit surprised how low Heros is, for some reason I thought it had better ratings than that. GO House, though!
I'm sure people don't bother to remove season passes at the end of a season. I certainly don't. In fact, I have some season passes set up just in case certain shows ever reappear on BBC America - because otherwise I'll never notice the shows are going to be on in the first place and I'll miss them.
I stole this from you know where. (Is 'The Chaser's War on Everything' the story of the FOX Forum these days?)

Fox dominated this third Tuesday of the new season in both total viewers and adults 18-49 thanks to the top-rated series of the evening, House. Tied for second was CBS (in total viewers) and NBC (adults 18-49), with ABC third and the CW a typical fifth.
...
Moving to 9 p.m., Fox mega-hit dominated with a rock-solid 17.73 million viewers and a 7.3/19 among adults 18-49. Comparably, that built from lead-in Bones by 9.41 million viewers and 135 percent among adults 18-49. Also firmly on the map was ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, at 16.04 million viewers and a 4.0/10 in the demo.
Also, for the previous week, House was once again #6 in total viewers and #3 in A18-49. I think I pulled that off the charts in USA Today.
question
Does anyone know if it is possible to get a hold of the demographics for a show like House? I'm sure they do polls and studies to determine the makeup of their audience and I wonder if that info is available to the public.
