Chase and Cameron's Engagement: What's your take? No spoilers, please!
Chipmunk_love- 04-19-2009
I'm really, really happy to see them grasp at least some happiness, but I also know how this show works. At the very least, Chase and Cameron have a bumpy road ahead of them.

I couldn't pick any of the options.
On the one hand, I'm glad they're getting more screentime. On the other, I think it's a badly written plot contrivance that does justice to neither character.

Tough one. I picked the first option. They really are adorable to me. Just from a shallow, physical view, they look like they just popped right out of a fairy tale. Ugh, I can't believe I said that.
I definately want H/C sunk forever because blech, but even aside from that C/C has really grown on me since Act Your Age.
I don't know if they'll get married, DS is so doom and gloom, but they have been reduced to such minor characters that he might just let them go through with it. I think it could go either way. However, if they do get married, then I think that's it for them, in terms of romance. If they get married, I don't believe they'll end up with anyone but each other.

No way is it going to last. No one on this show is allowed to be happy.
I mean, House couldn't be happy with Stacy, it took Cuddy two seasons to get a baby and there was so much angst and drama before that even happened, Wilson can't be happy with any of his wives, his now dead girlfriend, his only friend and sometimes even his job... etc.
House relationships are doomed before they even start. The closest thing we have to a healthy relationship is Taub/Taub'sWife, and the way he talks sometimes, you think he regularly cheats on her. And she's not even a lead character.

I voted for the "Happy to see them get more screentime" option, although a more appropriate choice for me would have been the non-existent "I don't like this pairing, but since I love the characters separately, I'm just happy to see them get more screentime" option.
The whole engagement feels like a contrivance to me, as Ariadne said. It's as if the writers didn't know what to do with them as doctors, so they had to make their storyline personal instead, and throwing their fans a bone in the meantime.
I can't get past the silliness of the Sexcapades arc to properly root for them as a couple. I think they are beautiful together, but I guess I am more drawn to House's rugged sexiness than Chase's pretty sexiness, so I expect Cameron to be the same. Good for her if she prefers Chase - he IS the better choice - but it doesn't feel quite right to me. I think that deep down inside, she'd like the challenge of House, just like Cuddy does.
I still think that "Did you sleep with him?" is a big old matzo ball that is still out there, as well as his trust issues with her being around House. And for as long as they've been together, she should know that. I simply cannot imagine a marriage without trust and good communication skills, and these two have neither, in my opinion.
I'm sorry. I probably should have posted all this in the C/C thread. I got carried away. :blahblah:

I agree with basically everything LogicalLilly said, and I made the same choice in the poll! :)

I'm torn between voting for "happy they're getting screentime" and "I hope they stay happy."
On the one hand, I'd rather see Chase doing doctor stuff than having his role centered on being Cameron's boyfriend/fiance. The way this show has started focusing so much on ships is one of the reasons I think the quality has gone downhill in the past two years. On the other hand, I'm so happy that he finally had a decent amount of screentime in an episode, I'll just about take whatever I can get.
Because I'm so fed up with ships, I hope Chase and Cameron stay happy and their relationship stuff is mostly left off screen (but that THEY are NOT left offscreen). If they're happy it will provide a balance to Huddy who are doomed and Boreteen who are doomed. I just want to see Chase as a DOCTOR again. Cameron, on those rare occassions when she's in an episode, at least gets to contribute to the cases in a significant way.
So, those are my thoughts. I haven't made my mind up on which to vote for.

What extra_cat said. Word for word.
I voted "I hope they stay happy", but it was a toss up between that and "happy they're getting screen time".

It would have been "Happy they're getting more screen time".
I did never really believe in them as a couple, sad as it might be... I'm about to watch season 3 on my DVDs at the mo and you can see from the start that this is a doomed relationship. Never worked for me. Even in Hunted, there was this uncomfortable feeling that she was going to start something off just to be distracted and being selfish. She bit him, not knowing if she was positive for HIV! I mean, hello? What the..?
