You weren't the only one who got confused, Poeia, and I text all the time. It's a good suggestion. I might also suggest a separate post/thread/something which keeps a list of "official" abbreviations that those who have been in the fandom a while understand, but those who haven't might not. Cameron's PDH and Wilson's LLB are the ones that pop immediately to mind. Something like that would help newcomers to the board/fandom follow a conversation without getting lost in abbreviations.

I think a list of "Official" abbreviations is a great idea. I nice reference tool as the community here expands. Good One Chipper.

I'm not sure if this is the right area to post since I'm don't know if this feature maybe is already on the board, I just can't find it.
Some boards I'm on have a 'postbot' or 'ticker,' I don't know the right wording for it- but its page that updates with new posts in real time. I know we have the 'posts since last visit' page, but the thing I've seen is that the page updates itself as a new post is being made without needing refresh. So if a discussion is going on, you will see all those posts start popping up and you can follow it to the thread and read.
Or, is there another page that isn't that isn't just 'posts since your last visit' but is 'all new posts' with the newest on top and you can go as far back as you want and it has nothing to do with when you've logged in last? I could just be a blind forum noob! Thanks.

Ours are pretty much arranged as you see them. But, if you see that little orange or white square next to the word "Posted:..." that indicates if the post is new since you last read it or old. Orange is a new post (so to me, your post right there is new) while white is an old post (such as the posts above yours).
You can usually use this same icon too to get to the newest post, however, if you've been on the board for awhile in one day, it will start to go to the newest post for that day for you. But, then you just look at the thread and look for that orange box again.

Ok thanks for the reply! My problem is I read during my free time at work and sometimes I'll have a page open, but don't read everything on the page, and then I need to close out. So it thinks I read that already, thats why I don't use the 'posts since last visit' since it doesn't physically know what my eyes have seen haha.
I just scroll-skim on a thread till I find the last post I actually read. And sometimes I don't log in and just read/lurk so it can't track me. Anyway its ok, its just conviences I thought I might have missed and not anything dire =) =)

Could we possibly have a way to separate the recaps of unaired episodes from your normal run of the mill spoilers? Suggestions: having people link to the complete recap, marking it in white text even in the spoiler thread, or having a separate thread.
I'm wary of going into the thread now, even to post links to clips, because I don't want to read recaps.
fffaw- 01-18-2009
I agree we should link to the recaps. We'll try to police that better. I don't like reading blow by blow descriptions of eps myself.
extra_cat- 01-18-2009
I'll white-out the detailed summaries since you don't like reading the blow-by-blows, fffaw.
marykir- 01-18-2009
Thank you!
fffaw- 01-18-2009
Already did, ec. Thanks. We can give it a try with the linking/whiting out and see if that helps.

Can we get a standard thread to discuss speculations for the next season? It's going all over the place currently, including the spoiler thread, though there are no real spoilers to speak of. (Someone made a leap that a reprinted article referred to season six, but in fact it was a reprint referring to the end of season five, which just confuses the issue all over again.)
I know there are some minor minor hints out there, but those aren't really spoilers, at least to my mind.

Done. And I locked the one for Season 5 while I was at it, so people wouldn't get mixed up.

Is there a list to look up in what categories individual topics are placed?
I'm getting old and can't seem to find TPTB topic, couldn't find the DVD thread in the past so I mispost
If there were a list somewhere that I could refer to, it would be such a great help. I am hoping that I am not the only one who could use a reference, but I might be. Embarassed
Thoughts?
Sometimes things float to the 2nd page of threads within a sub-forum. Without looking, I can tell you that TPTB are in the Characters and Actors subforum.
What I would suggest is going to the most likely subforum, hitting "CTRL + F" and searching for a key word. For TPTB, for example, "shore" or "jacobs" would be a good word.
In this case, you would find "The Creative Types: David Shore, Katie Jacobs, et al"
I'll reply to myself below and detail the layout in case anyone else is confused. (But you can't blame it on old age. I'll guarantee I've got at least a decade on you.)

House's House of Whining<*> Differential Diagnosis: General House Chatter - this is the catchall for House-related things that aren't episode specific, person specific (actor or character), ship-related, fanfic or a game. You will find spoilers, speculation (based on spoilers, spoiler free and "curry"), hopes for the next season, bitterness & satisfaction, media, ratings, props, music, DVDs, medicine, ethics, time line, continuity, Q&A (for when you need help remembering something from the show) as well as general HoYay and HetYay.
<*> PPTH People: Characters and Actors - there are threads for the 9 regular characters, the actors who play(ed) them, the original fellows as a group, the aspiring fellows from the survivor arc, the creative types, patients, etc. The House/Wilson friendship thread is also here (because it isn't technically a ship.)
<*> Makes You Feel Funny... Good: The Shipper Forum - I think we have every pairing that there is any interest in listed here. If you ship something obscure, there's a thread for "Other Ships." If it generates enough conversation, it will be assigned it's own thread.
<*> Everyone's Got an Opinion: The Poll Section - Self-explanatory.
<*> The Whinies – House’s House of Whining’s Awards for… House - self explanatory
<*> Monuments to Your Self-Centeredness: The Cafeteria - games, fanfic recommendations and discussion, etc.I'm Almost Always Eventually Right: The Episodes<*> Season 5 - threads for each episode plus a season overview thread.
<*> Season 4 - threads for each episode plus a season overview thread.
<*> Season 3 - threads for each episode plus a season overview thread.
<*> Season 2 - threads for each episode plus a season overview thread.
<*> Season 1 - threads for each episode plus a season overview thread.Urgent Doctor Stuff<*> Rules, Guidelines and Announcements - unfortunately, the most unread subforum at HHoW.
<*> Hirings and Firings: Real Life - introductions, off-topic posts and strike discussions.
<*> Troubleshooting, etc. - a coding primer, a place to report glitches and, in this thread, a place to ask for new stuff, etc.
<*> House-Bound No More - a place to talk about books, movies, music and TV that have nothing to do with House.

Quick question. Are we allowed to have animated/moving avatars? Everyone has just pictures and I was wondering.
