Someone posted either upthread here or when it was still being discussed in Media, that the Teamsters' contract allows them to strike in sympathy on an individual basis without repercussions. The union can't tell them to strike.
For anyone else, it's a violation of their contract. And I'm sure WGA members understand -- just as, if this strike is over before the actors' contract come up, the actors will understand if the writers don't strike with them.
I assume actors who are sympathetic (hopefully all of them) will keep an eye out for anything being written after today by the hyphenates.
Which ews writers are covered, and which ones aren't? Local news and like CNN will still go on, right? But no Dateline/60 Minutes?
What are Teamsters?
About the most famous union on the planet.
They're the transportation drivers.
However, other production element guilds fall under the Teamsters including casting managers and location managers.

It is the organized crime tie-in to the Teamsters that makes them quite famous. Even globally, I'd say, based on the sheer number of crime saga movies.
There was a funny comment about the writers showing up to picket at 9:00 am, hours after the teamsters had already arrived at work. C'mon writers, gotta keep teamster hours.
(Just kidding. Just kidding, but the comment was real. I have no idea if it's true or not.)
I know that people who post comments to web articles tend to have the most strongly held opinions, but considering the amount of vitriol being spewed, it seems to me like a lot of working relationships are going to be damaged no matter what the ultimate contract looks like.
There's an update of the WGA strike a couple times a day on my news thingy. I don't know how it is for other people's.
According to the latest update at Deadline Hollywood, two actresses from "House" were picketing but no one could ID them. LOL!
At Fox, Diane English, Jim Brooks and Callie Khouri were all picketing as well as actors Peter MacNichol (Numbers), David Boreanaz (Bones), Lorraine Newman (ex-SNL), and two actresses from House no could ID. "It was a great first day," one writer told me tonight. "By Friday, I promise you, I'm not going to be so enamored of it."
Well, there are only 3 or 4 actresses on House...shouldn't be THAT hard to figure out. Was one of them blond? ;)
And this is totally unverified, but I'm also hearing reports of Tim Kring at "Heroes" being out? And by that I mean permanently out. Anyone else see that anywhere?
Not wanting to fan the flames of rumors or anything, but I'm wondering how destructive this strike will ultimately end up being. Could be quite bad by the time it's all said and done.
I went to the Heroes forum at the Other Place and they are saying that there is no source for that story and they are hoping it's not true.
Also from the Heroes forum, this link to a story from the
Hollywood Reporter about the position showrunners are in now.
