But from what I can gather, most are unsatisfied with the ending from a storytelling point of view or because they feel that it's OOC for House or the show itself. So I don't see where the ship wars are coming into play?
Yes, I agree. I can understand a war of words over the characterization of House in the episode but I don't understand why a ship war should naturally follow this episode.
I'm not sure what it is about the last scene that doesn't sit right with me but I wasn't wild about it. That said, Huddy is happening and I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays out. There is so much drama and angst to be mined from this development and I'm looking forward to seeing how it all ends

HUDDY SPOILAGE Yes, Ausiello confirmed it in an interview with Kate Jacobs here.
END HUDDY SPOILAGE
Mods, is it okay to post this here?
Mod Note: Nope, not out in the open like that. I've spoiler tagged it. The "here" link goes to a spoiler article. Click at your own risk!
ETA: I have this image of Cuddy wearing an apron and Rachel tear-assing around the kitchen and she's screaming at House, who's playing a video game: "I slave over a hot hospital all day and all you do is hide out in the coma wing and play video games and watch soaps!" "
"I'm on the fifth level. Did you say something, Lisa? Oops, I'm being paged. See you later."

Ship wars can be started over promos, rumors, decor, clothing, pets, anything and everything remotely related (or unrelated) to the actual show. It is not a reasonable phenomenon.

I don't see any permutation of happy families with Huddy. House said he's the most screwed up person in the world (or was it planet or something else?) and I believe him. I do wonder how long it will take for them to crash and burn. If last night is any indication, they both have no problem saying horrible things to each other. It should be fun to watch.
Because I am dense, what was the symbolism of leaving the cane hanging at the disaster site?

Oh, goodness, I don't see this scenario at all. At least I hope I don't. These two have a very non-conventional complicated relationship that at the core is love. I hope to see two people that continue to live on their own, get together for companionship, intelligent conversations (yes, they are capable), sex and then get tired and annoyed with each other, go back to their separate ways until it is time to meet up again, and wash and rinse. That is my idea of House and Cuddy and it works in my twisted mind.

Can I hug you?
I do hope we will mainly see the banter and fighting back, now that they're done with the teenage want/don't want.

Both of those got lost in an overambitous ep that, IMHO, was designed finally to get HL his well-deserved Emmy.
Well now, that is an interesting question: Is this the Emmy show or should it be Broken? I think Hugh was extremely effective in both, but perhaps a little more so in the final?
Gobblin- 05-18-2010
With regards to Emmy's i'd go with Broken everytime, he made me cry during those 2 hours.
House is doing well this season though he got a jump at the beginning & at the end of the season :)

Er, can I just say that the scene I wrote was a joke? Obviously not a good one. Sorry to anyone who took it remotely seriously.
For sheer amazingness (non-word) of acting, I would submit this one for the Emmy.

I just don't know what they can do with the character anymore. I still love the show and am fascinated by the character but the ending just seemed to me like too much closure.the ending: and a desperate man is once again saved by the power of true love... geez, if I wanted to read a fairy tale, I know where to find one
Who's saying that he's saved? Cuddy just helped him to get through this particular crisis, that doesn't mean he's "fixed". What's different is that now he has a reason, a new motivation, to change, something that he's obviously been missing the past few episodes. And now we get to see if and how he's going to handle a relationship. It's just the next step.
I really hope he's not 'saved' for long because it'd mean the end of series
What I was saying is that he was saved in this particular scene by appearance of Cuddy and her declaration and, sorry, it seemed cheesy and out-of-blue to me, especially after what she said earlier. Not to mention I still cannot wrap my head around her breaking up with Lucas.
I just wish the ending was hopeful without being soap-operish, House could have decided not to take the pills on his own, could have phoned someone, Wilson or Foreman could have come. I even wouldn't have minded if they had Cuddy decide she felt awful after telling House all those things and simply come to check on him. I have a problem with how unexpected it all was, and this jump from 'I don't love you, I'm engaged' to 'I love you, let's get together right now' was much too abrupt (and it's obviously only my opinion, I really don't wish to offend anyone).
The 10-second ship summary:
Huddy: SQUEE! OMG OMG OMG I CAN'T BREATHE!
Hilson: The world sucks and there is no God. David Shore did this to me personally.
Hameron: Bring back Cameron because she's the one who's supposed to save House! #wesupportjen
double LOL  Cuddyclothes, thank you so much for making this gloomy day much more bearable (and I'm not talking only about House, it's been raining like crazy here  )
two additional comments, one good, one bad:
starting from the bad: I'm not sure about the scene when House tells Hannah how he changed after infarction, HL rocked as always but I thought it was a bit on the sappy side... IMO House wouldn't open like that, especially with other people around
and the good: vending machine collapsed!

I think that was the point. We've seen him open up to patients like that before, starting in the pilot. We, as voyeurs of his life, have seen him do this many times. In this case, this was one of the very few times that anyone else has witnessed this side of House beyond the patients. And Cuddy saw it in this instance because of the situation. The patient is trapped, so House can't take her elsewhere. House also just had a huge blow up with Cuddy about his history and his actions in this case, so there's no way that Cuddy would walk away and let him say whatever he wanted to in private, because she believes he's acting against the patient's best interests.
So the only way he can make this declaration to the patient, is with witnesses (which also probably included the rescue crew working nearby).
Boffle- 05-18-2010
I thought the gesture of him throwing the pills was well considered. It was a moment of choice after he had been sitting o the floor trying to decide what to do with his life. He literally threw the pills behind him. Intentionally. In the past. Done. Just letting them slip from his hands would have made it seem like he was distracted, not making a decision. At that moment House was making a conscious decision, not being swept up in the moment. He decided to approach Cuddy immediately, tenderly and seriously choosing her and the future instead of choosing the vicodin and the past. Well-played, I say.
I did wonder about the crane operator, with the police at his bedside. But we were seeing this from House's POV and as they left his mind (for the moment) we didn't see what happened.

Don't worry, I lol'ed for ten minutes at your "10-second ship summary" so there ;).

Me too, somehow I felt like HL's acting was more multifaceted in this one, but it's probably just the longer hair that won me over...;). That reminds me, pleeease don't have him cut his hair again or even worse, shave his beard in season 7!
Because I am dense, what was the symbolism of leaving the cane hanging at the disaster site?
Good question, it felt so meaningful when I watched it, but now I find it hard to come with something specific, I guess I'm just as dense as you are ;). Uh, maybe that he's stripped of all support...?
so, are we to believe she sprinted back home, didn't even bother to change, said: 'we're done' to Lucas and flew back to House's place?
I'll try to fanwank this one, since so many people seem to be upset about this: maybe Lucas came to the accident site to look after Cuddy or pick her up or something, and that was right after House had left in the ambulance, and that's when she made the decision to break up with him. How about that?
What I was saying is that he was saved in this particular scene by appearance of Cuddy and her declaration and, sorry, it seemed cheesy and out-of-blue to me, especially after what she said earlier.
Well, I get the cheesy part (although the scene worked for me, which is strange because I'm usually the first one to roll my eyes at any unrealistic romantic crap ;) but how was it out-of-blue? I thought we were meant to believe that Cuddy's 'I don't love you, I'm engaged' speech was actually a result of her feelings for House and the conflict resulting out of them. So to me those two scenes made a lot of sense, emotionally. Cuddy even said it herself, she can't stop thinking about House and she can't make herself feel the same way about Lucas, so naturally she's frustrated and annoyed with House. So when House attacked that relationship, that she's not convinced of herself, he touched a sore point and Cuddy lost it. The closer to the truth an insult is, the more defensive people tend to react.
He decided to approach Cuddy immediately, tenderly and seriously choosing her and the future instead of choosing the vicodin and the past.
Yeah, that was a nice symbolism, if a little heavy-handed, that after he let the pills fall to the ground, he used the same hand to clutch at Cuddy's hand.

I believed his talking to the patient about his life, leg, etc. But I didn't believe the line "it changed me. It made me harder." He said in "Lockdown" about Lydia. "She changed me." I know there are a lot of repetitious moments in general dialogue (everyone says "what the hell?" and never "what the hell is going on?" or "what the hell just happened?" 'That's my impression, YMMV.) But that line thudded for me. Also, wasn't there a general agreement that House was already House, but the leg made him worse, not into a completely different person?
Perhaps they could actually end House's pain by amputating his leg, but the CGI would be a nightmare.
Boffle- 05-18-2010
And one more excellent detail, that as he was looking in the mirror back in his apartment, there were certainly echoes of last year's finale including him having a red mark (an abrasion this time) on his cheek. As he looked at his face, wonder if that drew his mind back to that hallucination.
