I applaud David Shore for strapping it on and ending the episode on a note that I certainly didn't expect. I am glad they are finally going to explore the relationship between House and Cuddy. It is much better than all the long drawn out "will they, won't they" and I am glad Lucas has been buried. I just pray we don't have a reemergence of stink bombs and trip wires. Let them just stumble their way through it and I happen to think it can last a little longer than most think it will. Hugh has the best eyes for emotion---the welling up of tears and the red around the rims of his eyes break my heart every time. And to see the hopeful look on his face when Cuddy was talking to him at the end was delicious. Was it weird that when House and Foreman were walking at the front of the hospital, it seemed like noone was there? Last I knew, hospitals didn't close. And what I can't wait for is Wilson's expression when he finds out about this new revelation. How long will they keep it from him???? I thought it was a decent finale. Not quite as brilliant as the past 2 seasons but a good one still the same.

Holy crap, that was intense. I absolutely loved this episode. I think the ending might have been better, as someone suggested, if they simply showed someone walking into the bathroom and ended it there, without letting us know who it was. That would have sparked some discussion over the hiatus - ya think? I was so completely convinced that House was going back on the Vicodin that the ending surprised the hell out of me. I love when they surprise me. Hugh was fantastic. If possible, even more so than usual. Only downside is that I'm going to have to avoid even more of the fandom than I do now. I may just hide out in the Hugh Laurie thread all summer.

ETA: I had hoped that they would finally tell us whether it was really Cuddy in the Three Stories flashbacks who told Stacy about doing a myectomy. Poeia--Katie Jacobs confirmed that me last year when I interviewed her.

angelcat2865- 05-17-2010

Wow! That ending was the last thing I expected! Especially after that speech Cuddy gave him at the accident site. I have to say I thought her speech was unnecessary cruel, so she was the last person I thought might show up at the end. But I am so glad for House. I think he was truly on the verge of giving up on everything including his life. I know it won't last but I really hope the TPTB will actually give the relationship real chance on the show.

Poeia- 05-17-2010

Was it weird that when House and Foreman were walking at the front of the hospital, it seemed like noone was there? Last I knew, hospitals didn't close. Large sections of the hospital are always in business, the ER, patient care areas, places like that. At night the OR will be partially open to handle emergencies but elective surgery is during the day. Once visiting hours end, many hospitals will close everything but the emergency room entrance. The front desk is by the clinic (which is closed.) It's probably manned 2 shifts a day and closed for the third one.

I was imagining all the bad things for House in this epi. (why not, it's House:D), but I was wrong, and I'm so relieved. Of course, we can't expect happy Huddy in Season 7, and I'm not worrying about it at all. (not because I'm not Huddy and waiting for the breakup, but I have a faith in David Shore and his storytelling. ;)) Cuddy having been too harsh to House was showing her anger, her irritation toward herself, I think. The rationality was telling her to accept Lucas's proposal the night before, but she just couldn't, and it's because of House. When House talked Hannah to amputate her leg, Cuddy found a little bit of hope in her future with House, I immagine. (poor Cuddy. :P) (I don't think she said no to Lucas right away the night before, but I suppose at least she pended the answer.) I was so moved by the performance of Hugh all through, so at the end, I was just glad and relieved that someone came. I was ok with anybody, Cuddy or Wilson, or even Forman. :D Just as Poeia said, I felt a bit awkward, too, when House dropped the vicodins, after stretching his arm fully close to the floor. Maybe it was for the shooting convenience, but I liked that it looked like House clinged to them till the end. If he had dropped them in an instance, I would have felt that's too easy. No, his life can't be fixed so easily just because of Cuddy's existance in his life. So, I really loved this episode; tight, emotional, and beautifully shot. And can I say it again? Hugh's acting was astonishing.

ETA: I had hoped that they would finally tell us whether it was really Cuddy in the Three Stories flashbacks who told Stacy about doing a myectomy. Poeia--Katie Jacobs confirmed that me last year when I interviewed her. Not canon if it wasn't on the show. (And the more we learn about House & Cuddy's back-story, the less I believe it. They slept together in college and acted like they didn't know each other when he was hospitalized?) Ah, but that's for a different thread (not that I'm planning to raise the debate again.)

Loved this, was utterly involved from beginning to end. Gorgeous filming with the Canon cameras. That was a genius decision, especially for those tight spaces. And the acting? Hannah was brilliant, I so cared about her. And of course Hugh Laurie so owns me and every feeling I have: he is astonishing. House at his fiercest, most vulnerable, brave, crochety, harsh, loving, kind, brillliant, defeated, hollow, and hopeful: just every emotion one would really go through in that intense series of situations and through his eyes, they all made sense. Loved the story too. Cuddy has a history of not facing the truth, especially about House. He may be screwed up but she runs with him no matter what. And she is really the crueler one, I think, because he deeply gets other people's motivations and stops short most of the time of going too far, but she misses his motivations all the time and thinks he's being crass when he's being playful, well, both. Maybe she'll learn him a little better now. But if she's what he wants, and they've made it massively clear that she is, I say good on 'em. Give it a shot and we can learn a lot more about House from a perspective we've never had: House in a relationship, not alone, with responsibilities for the emotional well-being of others. Wow, lots of meat there. Also, I'm loving that they had a moment of quiet joy and connection to end the season. It was lovely and a kindness to fans, I think. We're all pretty sure it won't last though: most likely plenty of angst to come down the road. So excited for next season now. Thank you TPTB for ending on a positive, if likely ephemeral, clasping of hands.

Gobblin- 05-18-2010

For me this season has been a serious let down but i was hugely impressed with last nights episode. Great direction, fantastic acting. Yummy, dirty, gritty Hugh.... :) And from a non Huddy fan, i was still impressed with the sweetness of the ending. House drained of emotion & disbelief he was going to get something good he craved for once. I just hope Season 7 doesn't turn into the breakup/makeup, i love you/i hate you show between these two. Hopefully now these two have sealed the deal as it were we can get back to the medicine

<takes deep breaths and tries to calm herself> Ok, there were several things I truly enjoyed: - the whole crane plot and House getting into the building was contrived to say the least, but the acting more than made up for it; the scenes between House and Hannah were fantastic (even if House was much too open about his issues for my liking) and his final confrontation with Foreman left you breathless Give HL an Emmy finally! - I liked watching the team working together and Taub's being worried about Thirteen - I'm also very grateful I didn't know in advance how this episode would end, because surely I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as I did Now, moving to the list of things I wasn't impressed with (to put it very mildly): - one scene with Wilson?! Seriously??? :x - the ending: and a desperate man is once again saved by the power of true love... geez, if I wanted to read a fairy tale, I know where to find one :/ totally unrealistic: I'm sorry but I don't believe Cuddy broke with Lucas before the accident because IMO she wouldn't have made this 'you're alone' speech to House (so, are we to believe she sprinted back home, didn't even bother to change, said: 'we're done' to Lucas and flew back to House's place? or did she text him as someone said?) I wanted this season to end on a hopeful note but really, House clearly left not only his cane but his spine back at the accident side: I get that Cuddy was confused but she said a little bit too much for my liking and then she comes back, says 'I love you' and everything's ok? meh, I hope DE will be able to write some sense into this whole situation <sighs> I so wish it was Foreman who helped House. I wanted Wilson at first but after seeing the whole scene between HL and OE I was keeping my fingers crossed for Foreman to come, I thought he was great in this episode :( Anyway, I'd like to thank the writers for season 6. IMO it's been a good season and I really loved a lot of episodes. I'm just sad the last two are not the ones I'm looking forward to seeing again :(

Give it a shot and we can learn a lot more about House from a perspective we've never had: House in a relationship, not alone, with responsibilities for the emotional well-being of others. Wow, lots of meat there Yup! There is much we can learn from House, and that is what this is all about. House's journey. Hugh Laurie is THE MAN :D House drained of emotion & disbelief he was going to get something good he craved for once Yes, after having some hope once he left Mayfield, to having that hope dashed. It was nice that something good happened to him.

I think it is true that fandom will "ruin" what over all was an excellent episode over ship wars But from what I can gather, most are unsatisfied with the ending from a storytelling point of view or because they feel that it's OOC for House or the show itself. So I don't see where the ship wars are coming into play? And I loved the episode including the last scene ;). I was afraid that it was going to be too sappy for my liking, but I actually enjoyed the ending very much. I found it rather subdued and not too dramatic or anything. Maybe the credit belongs to LE and HL for selling it, I don't know, or maybe it's simply the fact that imo they still have so much chemistry (it felt so good to finally feel that chemistry again!) so that I can't help myself but enjoy their sweet interactions. I'm disappointed so many hated it, although I did kind of expect it. Most opinions on here remind me of my feelings towards Broken, remember that whole music box storyline? Now that just made me cringe and roll my eyes (just remembering it makes me sick), but this scene between House and Cuddy just made me happy. Also the height difference between the two is kind of adorable ;). I just don't know what they can do with the character anymore. I still love the show and am fascinated by the character but the ending just seemed to me like too much closure. the ending: and a desperate man is once again saved by the power of true love... geez, if I wanted to read a fairy tale, I know where to find one Who's saying that he's saved? Cuddy just helped him to get through this particular crisis, that doesn't mean he's "fixed". What's different is that now he has a reason, a new motivation, to change, something that he's obviously been missing the past few episodes. And now we get to see if and how he's going to handle a relationship. It's just the next step. we can learn a lot more about House from a perspective we've never had: House in a relationship, not alone, with responsibilities for the emotional well-being of others. Wow, lots of meat there. Exactly! What makes House the show interesting to watch, for me at least, is to see how House behaves in his own screwed-up way in common situations. The Housian twist on them ;). So for me, the storyline itself doesn't have to be special or original itself, so let him have the girl of his dreams and see how it plays out. I really miss the whole boss-employee dynamic between Cuddy and House, the banter, him trying to convince her to let him do these crazy treatments that only he would go for. Well, exactly, now that they're in a relationship, managing their boss-employee relationship will create a whole new challenge and lots of tension which is going to be so much fun (I hope). Or do you expect them to just agree on everything now that they're in looove ;)? And I don't see them ending their relationship as fast as many seem to expect. Come on, they spent two seasons building it up, they're not going to crash it after 5 episodes. Also, they have to consider the season 7 finale, don't they? ;) I think he's a damaged and extremely flawed individual who has made it clear many times that he has no interest in being a parent, and has been downright cruel about Cuddy's child in the past, right to Cuddy's face. That doesn't mean that he can't behave in a responsible way towards a child. Just because he doesn't have an interest in children in general, doesn't mean that he can't develop a relationship with a particular child, initiated by an emotional attachement to someone. And just because he has a negative opinion of Cuddy's motives for adopting a child, also doesn't mean that he hates the child itself. The only thing I felt rang false was that when House showed her he hadn't taken the Vicodin, he then put his arm all the way to the side before dropping them so there would be no way to miss it. It would have felt real-er to me if they had just slipped from his fingers. Funny you mention that, because I felt the exact same way about it, but I didn't expect anyone to comment on it ;)! And you're right, letting the pills slip from his fingers would have looked much better. I loved the irony of House calling Lucas a man-child, considering that House himself is the biggest man-child out there ;). And the most surprising thing for me is that I'm actually feeling sorry for Lucas!! Can you imagine that? I hate that character! ;) (Also, will Cuddy have to fear finding an opposum in her bathtub next season?)

I'm worried because so often when the will they/won't they couples hook up, that's the official jumping shark moment for many, many shows. Because a major source of dramatic tension and undercurrent is gone. (I guess "Moonlighting" is often used as an example.) If this was an ensemble show like ER two characters hooking up might not be so big a deal. I'm as big a sap as anyone when it comes to romantic stuff, but this went way too far. I think the Internet will be lashing like a dying anaconda over the summer because of the ship wars, but I've never seen it manifest on this particular board. (Thank you, mods!) The 10-second ship summary: Huddy: SQUEE! OMG OMG OMG I CAN'T BREATHE! Hilson: The world sucks and there is no God. David Shore did this to me personally. Hameron: Bring back Cameron because she's the one who's supposed to save House! #wesupportjen

radiosweetheart- 05-18-2010

Moonlighting didn't really jump the shark when David & Maddie got together. Moonlighting got bad when there was a writer's strike & Cybil Shepherd got pregnant with twins & Bruce Willis starred in a little movie called Die Hard. That all happened simultaneous with David and Maddie finally sleeping together. I'm trying to think of a show that improved with the will they or won't they was finally answered with a "will" (they always will-who are the writers kidding?). The Nanny didn't really suffer a decline in quality, I guess.

Count me as one who liked it until two things happened. First, the surgery. I was LOL! Yeah, a nephrologist would single-handedly perform a major limb amputation by himself -- w/o Cuddy or one of the EMTs to help him. And I'm sure they couldn't find a single ortho surgeon in all of the greater NY area, for goodness sakes. It was so made up -- it WAS so like General Hospital -- that I wanted to gag. I have no problem with House encouraging her to do the amputation or even assisting a real surgeon. But this was insane and beyond unrealistic. Second, the Cuddy turnaround was way too quick. Going from engaged to breaking the engagement in less than 12 hrs. Come on! And the whole speech to House seemed off. I guess they were working up to this all season but I didn't see it coming because it really did come out of the blue. Here's how I would have ended it . . . House on the floor, pills in hand and someone (the viewer isn't sure who) walks in. IF they were going to tell us who that person was, I wanted it to be Wilson. And we'd be left for the whole summer to figure out who had found House, would he revert to the pills, etc. As a side note, did ANYONE pay any attention to the other POTW (the one in the hospital) and did ANYONE care about the 13 plot line other than maybe celebrating that she might not be on the show as much next year? Both of those got lost in an overambitous ep that, IMHO, was designed finally to get HL his well-deserved Emmy.
