I don't think House argued for that leg to be saved because of Cuddy. I think he argued for it because he honestly wanted her leg to be saved. However, her little "you're alone" speech certainly snapped him out of it, as we saw.
I agree. I don't think that was about getting back at Cuddy. However, her speech did seem to make an impact.
I need to say it again. Bravo! I need to watch this again. I can't wait to find out what happens next season! Always the mark of a good finale, when you are excited about what lies ahead for the coming season.

I'm claustrophobic also, so I had a book in front of my eyes a few times so I wouldn't join Hannah in her panic attack.
I'll get to the last scene but first I just have to say how amazing it is that HL is able to keep me riveted through scene after scene six years into this show. He was trying to be so flippant when Cuddy was telling him she was moving on but in his eyes it was as if she struck him physically.
And the final scene was so intense when he smashes the mirror and is staring at the pills in his hand. If only they had ended when the figure in shadows enters the bathroom and House asks what they are there for.
I would much rather spend the next three months wondering who it was-Cuddy, Wilson, Nolan? Or maybe the start of more hallucinations?
Anyway I might have to avoid some threads here for awhile. Poor mods-I feel your pain.

Shipper wars are going to be a mess but as someone who enjoys multiple ships, I didn't get that at all. That was not character development...that was character annihilation. Since when is House *that* sensitive? And metaphoric? The cane thing... And when did Cuddy have time to go home and break up with Lucas? That was a bad fanfic-esque ep. I am curious what happened with 13 - it's a bit sad she was the only character I was taking seriously. I feel like it's a totally different show...in their effort to be deep and emotional they've just gotten shallow and sappy...I'm not sure why.

Honestly, I've missed the darker, more serious version of House that we used to see more of in seasons past. The episode leading into this one was amazing; I had hoped that the finale might continue in that vein, with House struggling to accept that the people around him are happy, but he is not, despite his sincere efforts to change. Which it did, I suppose, but Cuddy's miraculous appearance at the end (and declaration of love, etc.) seemed a bit too easy.
And so we begin next season with House/Cuddy, it seems. *shrug* We'll see what happens, I guess, but color me vaguely unimpressed so far.
They did the same thing in S1. Three Stories was the next-to-last episode, The Honeymoon was last. They use the season finale as a way to tie up some of the raw ends left by the previous episode.
What they embargoed, the House/Cuddy scene, was the least compelling of the episode. Huddy was going to happen eventuallly. It might as well be now. And, when S7 starts they'll have been humping like bunnies for 4 months and we can watch it all fall apart.
The reason the episode worked for me was House's emotional journey. Of course he was trying to give Hanna the outcome he had wanted for himself -- having his wishes about what medical care he received respected. The similarities between their cases were obvious (and a bit heavy handed.) But the cases weren't really the same. House was in a hospital. The damage to his leg was localized. As a doctor, he was making an educated choice about his treatment options (and choosing the riskier one.) Because the damage was so high, amputation probably would have meant losing his leg at the hip. Hanna, on the other hand, had a building lying on her lower leg.

I don't really have a ship, and I'm not involved in fandom at all aside from watching the show itself and posting here sometimes. I genuinely, wholeheartedly hated that ending. It felt completely out of left field. I don't want to ruin things, but those are my feelings on it.

Honestly, I was loving this episode until those last five minutes. I mean, as they say, WTF? If this isn't a hallucination, then the show leapt over the shark into the entire aquarium.
And now I have Vicodin blueballs. I was SO HAPPY that he was going to take those pills!

Lame ending, in my opinion. Like someone else said, it reminded me of a fanfic...or at least it would have been more suited for a series finale than a season finale. What now? Who is House? Will season 7 open with him and Cuddy living together happily? Maybe their banal domestic issues ? Does he bond with patients now?
I really miss the whole boss-employee dynamic between Cuddy and House, the banter, him trying to convince her to let him do these crazy treatments that only he would go for. To me, it was a part of his persona as House the genius diagnostician, he pushed boundaries.I think this part has really been missing from the show in the past two seasons.
I don't know what else to say, other than that this all seemed really out of character to me, both for House the character and the show.
I also thought it was just overly dramatic how she went and quickly broke things off with Lucas and then immediately went to House, still in her scrubs.
I just don't know what they can do with the character anymore. I still love the show and am fascinated by the character but the ending just seemed to me like too much closure.
All that said, superb acting by Hugh, as usual. He never ceases to impress :)

The ending was a little deus ex machina, but I'm also glad we finally ended a season with an up note. And notice even the Cuddy saves House sappiness was tempered with some realism. She said I love you, but I wish I didn't. She also said she didn't know if he could ever fix himself, which was sad but also realistic.
Other good touches: Foreman's sincere, but awkward attempt to be there for House.
The complete lack of background music.
The holding hands at the end.
Questions: Why does House call Cuddy a narcissist? She certainly has to be screwed up to be attracted to House, but she doesn't seem narcissistic.
When did Cuddy break up with Lucas? In between leaving the disaster area and rescuing House? That part didn't make sense for me.
Why doesn't House get his leg amputated if he regrets the decision he made in three stories?

Just to add that I'm very, very pleased that David Shore continues to tell his story, the way he wants to. And that he loves to zig in his story telling when everyone expects a zag.
Fandom says: Oh look, House is going into a downward spiral again. Just wait and see!
David Shore says: Hope! A point of light for a guy who thought he had nothing!
And I say: Oooh. New story telling angles so we can learn more about House.
When did Cuddy break up with Lucas? In between leaving the disaster area and rescuing House? That part didn't make sense for me.
I suspect Cuddy had broken up with Lucas before the episode even began, hence he weird reaction to House's gift from the start. (Lucas proposed, she has everything she thought she wanted, and then realized it wasn't what she was looking for.)

I think HL did a fantastic job. The acting was superb and if he gets denied an Emmy or a GG or whatever next year I will be very upset.
As for the ending...... I have a hard time rationalizing their behavior at the crash site with the ending. But it's been a long time since I have felt strongly about anyone like that so who am I to say that it couldn't/wouldn't happen like that.
I think it is true that fandom will "ruin" what over all was an excellent episode over ship wars. I stopped being heavily involved with that months ago, and I can see both sides. However, that being said, I certainly hope House the show does not become happy families and double dating, b/c that is not the show I have enjoyed for 6 seasons.

Glad I wasn't the only on suffering. Daff was having issues too.

Maybe she texted him? ;-)

Whether or not I like the outcome of it, I completely agree that he should tell his story the way he wants to.

Look, "haters gonna hate" so-to those of you who loved the ep, I am happy for you.
But this isn't what I signed up for. I watch General Hospital for doctors in love. (Robin & Patrick 4eva!) I watch House for interesting character studies and thoughtful drama.
I dig the thought that Shore's telling "his story" but if this is his story, I feel like I have wasted a LOT of time. I'm talking Roseanne admits she made it all up because she was bummed about Dan's death kind of ripped off.
That scene with House & Cuddy was totally unrealistic. People, adult people anyway, don't behave like that. Give me a nice apocalypse and 2 beloved characters dying for 45 seconds any day.
This show has gotten very silly and not in the fish slapping way at all.
ETA: and since apparently this wasn't clear--I LOVE General Hospital. It's appointment viewing for me. It's one of my all time favorite shows. I've watched it with my mum since I was 5. I saw Luke & Laura's wedding live and it was awesome! But--House shouldn't have the same vibe. Sorry.

It was an amazing episode with brilliant work, as always, by Hugh. Some of the scenes in the rubble were really hard to watch being claustrophobic, but it seemed to get easier each time House went into the rubble.
I loved all his scenes with the patient, and in the ambulance and PPTH lobby - wow. Betweent Broken, Baggage, and tonight, if they're not engraving his name on the Emmy statue yet, not sure what it would take.
eta: What I did like was how that moment contrasted with BSN, the sweetness and hesitation in the kiss as opposed to them making out like teenagers, and House's quiet disbelief that he's actually getting something he wants.
Totally agree vitawash. And perfectly said.

I'm not claustrophobic, and even I was like "EEEE DON'T GO IN THERE" when House was crawling around in that tiny space. My heart broke for House during the ambulance scene. And it was stunning, as it always is, to see House let his guard down to confront Hannah about the leg, and that he was willing to do that in front of Cuddy.
The lobby scene was intense, and while HL was slamming it out of the park with House's foundation shaking, I thought Omar played that scene beautifully. Something that's changed in Foreman this season post-Epic Fail is his willingness to let his emotions show and to lead with some compassion, and I liked how that worked here.
I did think that like many end-of-arc episodes, this felt rushed. The big fight was relevant to the situation, but it still felt weird and over the top, although some of this could be the result of Cuddy trying to force herself to move on when she's hesitant. Cuddy's appearance seemed so surreal at the end, and her supposedly important relationship was over, off-screen, in a single sentence. Oh, all that stuff? Just love that she was trying to suppress. *shrug* What I did like was how that moment contrasted with BSN, the sweetness and hesitation in the kiss as opposed to them making out like teenagers, and House's quiet disbelief that he's actually getting something he wants.
