Well, Blacktop has always been my favorite when it comes to posting because she gets right to the heart of the matter and is able to articulate her thoughts so beautifully. I always look forward to reading her analysis because it is usually spot on.
Can I just say I was thrilled to see that Hugh's hair is long enough that he can now comb it over to the side. I have not only missed the dominance of his presence in the show this year but I have also missed the hair. Why do I think both will rise in popularity over the next 6 episodes?
"Did anyone already told you you're a buzzkill? All together : YES!!"
I loved this scene, and House pacing in the radiology room, and Wilson's " you know I love you ; period"- look, and the return of House playing music, and yes, Hugh with longer hair just looked gorgeous again, and the camera(wo)man seemed to think the same. (Did we have that lot of close up on him, lately? I enjoyed it too much for my own good).
All the epi went smoothly, not too angsty, easy to watch, which is a relief. And I loved the black hole special effects.
Didn't even mind the lack of Cuddy. Better not to see them together that to see akward banter like last week.
That makes me really happy with two consecutive episodes. Guess I should prepare for angst to come....
Finally got around to seeing it.
I must say, I'm glad that this episode mostly centered around the patient (much like the glory days of S1 - S3) but I don't think I liked how it was directed, which is a shame because I usually like when Mr. Yaitanes takes the wheel. For some reason, having no music in a lot of the scenes really creeped me out and I didn't really care for the artsy-fartsy shots. That being said, I did like the mystery of the illness. I don't think we've seen House this stumped on a case for quite awhile.
Taub was great in this episode. It's nice to see him get a storyline, although I'm not sure I will like where this one might end up. But who knows, that interaction with the nurse at the end could have been completely innocent.
Wilson. Amazing as always. Him feeling the wooden table and bouncing on that chair was just adorable. And the organ scene was just so damn cute on so many levels.
The Foreman bashing will never get old.
Overall, a great episode.
Beckston is transcribing this issue and she's hung up on the ending. Just before he slides into A Whiter Shade of Pale, House plays a few notes from something else. It sounds vaguely Phantom of the Opera-ish.
Can anyone identify it?
There is a list of the music on the House official site
For the Black Hole are:
1. "Toccata & Fugue in D-minor" (House plays Bach on the organ)
2. "Overture from 'Phantom of the Opera'" (House plays on the organ)
3. "A Whiter Shade of Pale" (House plays on the organ)
4. "A Whiter Shade of Pale" - Procol Harum
I was touched by RSL's masterful delivery of Wilson's wistful and conflicted glance at House which conveyed the layers of ambiguous and unsettled emotions that roil Wilson with this discovery. Without House, without a wife, who is Wilson? Can he take steps, as House seemed to be urging him, to define a personal identity of his own independent of a wife or friend? Wilson is unmoored and his unsatisfactory efforts to furnish his new apartment reflect that drifting state.
IMHO, Wilson didn't seem conflicted when he glanced back at House. I gathered that partly from House's statement "I like what this says about you, Wilson." Wilson responded with one of those looks that says, I love you and want you here. It made House happy and that's what likes to do when he loves someone. And on a practical level it meant House wasn't going to send all the other furniture back. Wilson definitely knows how to deal with House.
I like the charm of House' apartment but I certainly don't like it as much as Wilson's condo. The key to my love of Wilson's condo is the fact that House and Wilson are living there together.
Another interpretation here: Wilson's glance seemed to clearly indicate—to me—Wilson's ruefulness that he finally got House derailed from his insistence on Wilson revealing something about himself through his purchase of furniture by buying House a lovely shiny present. And it worked. That did make Wilson conflicted since he was happy his friend liked his present, but he was also chagrined that he got away with the trick and wasn't going to be forced to confront whatever issues he has that make this difficult for him, and he knows that he probably should go there but doesn't want to. And now he's manipulated House out of helping him, so he gets to stay the same.
House's place shows his taste and character, he's completely himself and you gotta love that. Wilson's place could be anyone's, a showroom from a catalog. He's never himself completely and hides behind his nice guy persona (not that he's not nice, but that's not all there is—goes back to Social Contract where we find that Wilson values House for not having to pretend to be other than who he is, but even so, he still does pretend).
Newbie here. I thought I should start asking for help myself instead of always having Poeia do it for me.
Thank you Muggs and Poli for your help with the music for Black Hole. I hadn't been able to find the official music list, but now that I know its listed in Recaps, I'm set.
I'm still not sure the middle piece House plays is from Phantom of the Opera, it just doesn't sound the same to me, but I will take the official list from Fox as canon.
