for me, they were together such a short time and were so unlikely a couple ... I call this subplot a fairly weak attempt to provide a Halloween-ish theme. To quote House, "Oh my god, you're (Wilson) sleeping with me," and to quote Wilson, "She's perfect for me, and if you (House) weren't filled with self-loathing topped by a thin crust of megalomania, you'd see that." The show set up explicitly that the characteristics Wilson most loves in House were also present in Amber, and that's why he fell so hard for her so quickly. She had House's characteristics AND she was able to be soft and allow Wilson to be soft with her, as shown in the waterbed episode "Living the Dream." So it makes perfect sense that at a time of great stress in Wilson's life, when he didn't have House around (when House was in Mayfield), that he'd start talking to Amber. And since House's return, House has rebuffed several attempts by Wilson to talk in that kind of way together, so it makes sense Wilson would continue to talk to Amber.

The other problem is that the show succeeded so well in making Amber a truly creepy character that it's hard to think of someone having benign thoughts about or cozy chats with her. I loved Amber and didn't think her creepy at all. She put on a great facade during competition (another House similarity, in that he's Mr. Facade) but as we saw her after she was fired, trying hard to "not care," it's obvious that she was more than what the competition was. This is part of what Wilson saw as well -- again, as he sees beneath House's exterior -- and she was really good for him, making him stand up for himself, not just acquiesce to what he thought others wanted. Wilson and Amber were also in the "honeymoon" stage of their relationship when she died. Everything was good and wonderful. No wonder why Wilson finds it hard to move on. Every other relationship (outside of that with House) has imploded. This never reached that point. And it wasn't Amber that House was seeing at the end of last season. House acknowledged that it was his own subconscious reflected in the image of Amber.

She had House's characteristics AND she was able to be soft and allow Wilson to be soft with her, as shown in the waterbed episode "Living the Dream." "Show, don't tell." As a couple, they always seemed like a stunt to me; there was more chemistry between Amber and House than between Amber and Wilson. IMO she would have worked much better as a member of the team than as Wilson's girlfriend. So it makes perfect sense that at a time of great stress in Wilson's life, when he didn't have House around (when House was in Mayfield), that he'd start talking to Amber. And since House's return, House has rebuffed several attempts by Wilson to talk in that kind of way together, so it makes sense Wilson would continue to talk to Amber. I wasn't clear as to how long it had been going on, but the way it was done just seemed OTT to me. Then again, I thought it was a bit much when they showed the unwashed cup, and that was ages ago. So this really had me rolling my eyes. Again, JMO, but it seemed very artificial. House acknowledged that it was his own subconscious reflected in the image of Amber. I should have said, "in S5." Amber wasn't creepy before that. And I know it wasn't Amber who was appearing in the club, and in the bathtub, and so forth. But that part of House's head was embodied by Amber, a very creepy Amber with very disturbed instincts. It's affected how I think of the character, especially since those images are much more recent than the times with Wilson.
