One thing I did like was the music in the episode, especially the pieces Lydia played, which are some of my favorites. I wish we had heard more of House's variations.

I liked the rap. House is good with words, he'd be able to think of rhymes that fast. And he was putting himself out there and willing to look ridiculous to help out another person. It was no "Mother Liker" but I liked what it said about House's growth.

RNwannabe- 09-21-2009

Well, I know that I am in the minority, but I found this to be a very disappointing episode. Turgid. Unbelievable. There were good moments, sure, but maybe I was spoiled by being spoiled. I felt no connection between Lydia and House. It felt made-up as a plot device. And speaking of plot devices, what was with the music box? Her (I don't even remember the patient's name) sister-in-law and very best friend plays piano for her for 10 years, and it takes a music box held by a relatively new resident of the facility to break her catatonia? And nobody thought to hand over her cello before this? And what made her withdraw in the first place (perhaps it was the script?) Having Shadowcat point out all of the other flaws doesn't help. I will now dodge the shoes.

I wasn't expecting to like House suddenly going into romance mode, but I really did enjoy this. It was romantic without being romanticized, if that makes sense, and House - as he can do when he's really sure he wants something - acted pleasantly, convincingly like an adult in that last hour. This is maybe just me, but I felt like all the connections/contributions House made were a way of 'replaying' all his recent blows with a better ending. Nolan's father was what made me think so - otherwise, why show that scene? I think it was because on some level he regretted not being with his father when he died, and to 'make up' for that, he sat with a man very like himself - lonely, a screw-up, and defined by his job - while his father died. Alvie, I thought was very like Kutner - and while he didn't catch what was going on with Kutner, he did inspire Alvie to want to get better. That brings us to Lydia - and while he obviously did make up for his inability to reach out to Cuddy by being intimate with this woman, I think there's more to it than that. The biggest thing that started him on the soul-searching path was Amber's death. There, he felt responsible for the death of a loved one's loved one. Here, he healed her instead. ...or, maybe I'm reading too much into things? It would not be the first time. *g*

I enjoyed the episode, despite the leaps of logic. I agree with m_supercomputer's take on the issue of Dr. Nolan's dying father -- that it was a callback to House's father, and that House's gesture of staying with Dr. Nolan was perhaps something he regretted not doing with his own dad. Just to say that on the issue of patients smoking cigarettes at Mayfield ... it didn't ring false to me. An NPR story from 2007 revealed that as late as 2006, 59% of psychiatric hospitals in the U.S. allowed patients to smoke. With everything else going on at Mayfield, I didn't think the writers stretched credulity all that much on that one.

Huh, well, thanks for that info, Nightdog. Guess that just proves that the place I use to work is even more inhumane than I previously expected. And that's saying something considering my opinion of those bastards.

Creepy yet ... satisfying?

Oh yes! I like this. I totally agree. That scene totally got me. When Dr. Nolan looked up at him pleading and House relented and stayed. *sniff

LOVED every bit of this episode even Lydia and I'm a Huddy. BTW, what happened to the kiss we saw in the previews? This is what I have learned about House. He is a very tender and sensual lover. Grrrrrrr. God bless, Hugh, the man is brilliant. AB, LM & FP were all awesome. Bravo to all. For those that thought Wilson should have picked up House, the way I interpretted the scene was House decided to do it on his own. For once, he didn't expect Wilson to drop everything for him. This is a huge move. We know Wilson would have been there in a flash if House called. I think Greg has grown up a bit. The bus was also significant because the last time he was on a bus was when all hell started to break loose for him. He has conquerred his demons. Good for him. Weeeeee. Season 6 has begun. Can't wait to see Cuddy, Wilson and the rest of the gang. I've missed them.

Well, I know that I am in the minority, but I found this to be a very disappointing episode. Turgid. Unbelievable. There were good moments, sure, but maybe I was spoiled by being spoiled. You don't have to dodge shoes. I was disappointed as well, and I wasn't spoiled. I didn't even watch the previews. I was hoping for: 1. a deeper discussion with Nolan about why House thinks he broke down. The effect of two doctors who worked for him dying. That kind of thing. 2. and a more...I don't know....unified, coherent, strong-beginning/strong-ending, shapely two-hour movie. This felt like a bunch of disconnected episodes spliced together. 3. more scenes about the relationship between House and Nolan. This was a bit too "feel-good" for me. I don't buy it that a mental patient plays the cello after ten years of catatonia. I don't buy it that someone who leaps off a building becomes warm and responsive to a "thank you." But, as always, Hugh Laurie really nailed it. I wasn't impressed by the lovemaking, but I was blown away (as usual) by Hugh Laurie's expression of...just...pain and tenderness as he kissed Lydia. And the scene when he holds her, and they're dancing silently, and he's closed his eyes. House has a piece of his heart back. now we'll get to watch for the rest of Season Six how he hardens once again. Spoiler: and judging by the fact that wilson and cuddy are starting to the pull the "you're an addict" crap on him again, and making him pee in a cup, all I can say is, Here we go. Again. Watch House fall apart.

Finally, I'm at work and can honestly tell you, that i don't like 6*01!! What is it?? Dancing ang laughing House?? After a lot of vicodin? after breaking??? Soooo strange! And I didn't catch the main idea of the episode! :( But I like music, House-rap and a bus with "move to succed" line :) And also, can you help me, ppl... That moment, When House goes to the back of the bus... There is noone on the last seat.. We can see it in windows. But when he sit down... there is an arm in white sleeve. Is it Amber??? P.S.: blonde doctor looks like Amber and Cameron at the same time. Lidia looks like Cuddy... Is it OK? :) :)

RNwannabe- 09-21-2009

I don't buy it that someone who leaps off a building becomes warm and responsive to a "thank you." That was another thing that bothered me. I do not think that House owed an apology to the flying man. House did not push him off of the roof. All he did was show him what it felt like to fly. House stole a car and gave him a gift. What he (the patient) did with that is nothing that House should need to apologize for. JMO

And watched... some of them tried to kill em... some - found a way to stay alive... But this 'Clark Kent'.. I didn't understand the idea of House's apologises! He looks like he is on drugs! It's nor real House!

granamica- 09-21-2009

I thought the episode was great. Hugh is an acting machine! Like with every episode on tv, I do not try to compare it to the real world...the shows that do that well are to me, frankly boring. No, I don't care if a real hospital doesn't run that way, if the mute girl playing is cliched or if finding an unlocked closet to get f*cked in wouldn't really happen. I LIKE that it happened tonight. And I still contest that House has more chemistry with guest stars than with Cameron or Cuddy. Oh, as a Mi-5 uberfan, I loved seeing Megan in this too.

angelcat2865- 09-21-2009

I loved the movie. Hugh was awesome. I will have to think about it some more before I say any more.
