On a totally unrelated note, did they make JM wear stilts when she was interacting with House every episode or something? Either Hugh Laurie is extremely tall or Jennifer Morrison is like four feet tall. They must have had her in stripper heels or something because she was just dwarfed by him in trainers. I'm going to go through old episodes and check and see if she was ever standing on a box now.
Hugh is 6'2" and dwarfs just about everyone. Jen is 5'5". The only time I've seen her in heels was in "All In," but that doesn't mean she wasn't wearing them in other episodes. I'm just used to seeing everyone around House as considerably shorter than he. (For the record, Lisa E. is 5'4" but she comes off as taller because Cuddy wears heels more and is "bigger" (i.e., curvier) than Cameron.
As far as the doctors' specialties being canon, if Shore and/or Fox says they are, IMO it's canon, whether it comes up in an episode or not. We've had lots of references in episodes to Wilson being an oncologist and Taub being a plastic surgeon. Chase's training as an intensivist came up a few times, most notably in the episode where he was moonlighting in the NICU. House's nephrology specialty has been mentioned once since the pilot (don't recall the episode, but it involved a patient with kidney issues). Foreman-as-neurologist has only come up once or twice.
Correct me if I'm wrong on this but I don't remember any of these specialties coming up as plot points: Cameron (immunology), Cuddy (endocrinology), Kutner (sports medicine), Thirteen (internist), Amber (interventional radiology). But I still consider them canon.

HL is around 6' 3". JM is proported to be around 5' 5". So apparently they broke out the p0rn star heels in most other eps.
It always made me laugh when people implied that Cameron kissed House "against his will" in that 'very special' episode.
All he'd have to do is stand up straight and she could only have kissed his chest...which is not unappealing

I tried to remain as unspoiled as possible, though through the big honking hints dropped everywhere, I knew someone would die but not when or who.
Kutner, of course, was the most unlikely -- especially in this manner -- so it'll have the most impact. (If they'd been dropping clues, it wouldn't have the same impact. Coming out of the blue, it hits the audience as unexpectedly as it hits House and the team.) Though I loved Kutner and hate that we won't have him around, I think it was a great creative move -- setting up so much in terms of why House didn't see it (but yet in the final photo of Kutner, showing us that there were those moments in his life beyond the fanboy facade) and the impact that will have on the team as a whole moving forward.
I'm really, really grateful I was unspoiled, because it had that shock and awe and gut punch of seeing it happen, and seeing the reactions with fresh eyes.
I know fandom's going to hate it, but I think it's a decision with great continuing potential to explore and I absolutely think it's going to continue to play out. The easy decision would have been to get rid of Thirteen or Foreman, or Taub since we know about his previous suicide attempt. But the easiest decision isn't the most interesting one.
OK. I'll be standing out in the corner of fandom all by myself.
I actually agree with you Namaste. Still forming my thoughts on the episode.

Cameron as immunologist has come up a lot. One of the most memorable was the immunology vs. cancer diagnostic argument that she and Wilson had during "Merry Little Christmas" (when Cameron was really mad at Wilson about House).
Cuddy's specialty came up in the episode where she was on a date with the Lube Shop Owner -- House went to have her look at a medical file because the endocrinologist on call was "unavailable."
I don't recall the specialties of Kutner, Thirteen, and Amber even being discussed.
***
Somebody earlier mentioned the lighting. At one point, Cuddy said to the team something to the effect of, "Let me know if you need anything," and my husband and I said, "Could you get the lights fixed? This blue-gray wash is really a downer."
I am not happy about Kutner being gone.
Housewhore4- 04-06-2009
Yeah, Cuddy's specialty came up in "Insensitive" (the episode deelaundry just described)
I couldn't even tell you what Thirteen specializes in, but then again, that just fits her "mysterious" intrigue, right?
Foreman the neurologist came up a hell of a lot back in the good ol' days of seasons 1-3, but oddly enough, in his "senior fellowship" position on House's team, he's never brought to the forefront with brain/head issues, nor does he act arrogant and says "well since my specialty is neurology..." like he used to. Sad, his arrogance was the only thing that gave his character somewhat of an edge.

OK, I just went and looked at the online memorial, and that is some weird shit right there...

Starting with the fact that his "obituary" said he was 33 and Foreman in his call to the ambulance said he was 28. Continunity Fairy, where art thou?

LOL, I was a bit too unnerved to even notice that. I just...I dunno...I think putting a memorial up for a fictional character, complete with a fake Facebook page of photos from his "life" is just taking it a little too far. I mean sure, the whole point of enjoying a show (or not) is relating to the characters emotionally, but this kind of crosses a line with me. JMO, of course, I'm sure there are those who think it's a cool idea.

For those who are interested, Ausiello will have an interview with David, Katie, and Kal up by the time Hawaii sees this episode. Note: there will probably be spoilers for future episodes, as, well... it's Ausiello.
PlayStereoPlay- 04-06-2009
Could someone perhaps post a spoiler-free version?
And as far as the memorial book though, I kind of lol'd at (just being courteous of those who don't want that spoiled, I guess) House's total lack of writing anything. The only ones I really liked were Cuddy's and Foreman's.
Finney- 04-06-2009
The memorial book wasn't bad, especially with House's entry noticably absent. That's still in character and in context. The FB page just WAY upped the creep out factor for me though.
angelcat2865- 04-06-2009
They never told us what Kutner's specialty was.
Sports medicine, I believe

That was awesome! The whole thing was kind of morbid though
sorry, I edited this because I guess some of that stuff is spoilers

I'm going to consider it canon, I like Cuddy's bit about having Kutner babysit for her, reminds me of the whole Cole/Kutner friendship thing back in season 4, I really liked that. Kutner totally seems like the kind of person who would say they would do something along with everybody else but, in reality, is the only person to ever follow through.
The video they put up is actually really good. I didn't expect it to be but I caught myself with a stupid grin on my face by the time it was over and now I really want to go watch Harold and Kumar.
The "This guy's Harry Potter" line was officially Kutner's crowning moment of awesome, I'll never get over that.
