5.19 - Locked In A MAN INJURED IN A BICYCLE ACCIDENT IS “LOCKED IN” HIS OWN BODYAND NEEDS THE HELP OF HOUSE AND THE TEAM TO SAVE HIS LIFE ON AN ALL-NEW “HOUSE” MONDAY, MARCH 23, ON FOX
Unique Episode Shot Predominantly from Perspective of Patient
Mos Def (“Be Kind Rewind”) Guest-Stars
We find ourselves inside the mind of Lee (guest star Mos Def) as he awakens after a bicycle accident in New York unable to move or communicate verbally. From his unique perspective, we hear Lee’s inner thoughts as House, injured in a motorcycle accident, occupies the hospital bed next to him. House takes notice of Lee as his doctor writes him off as being brain-dead and begins to arrange his organ donations. However, House confirms that Lee is not brain dead at all, but rather has “locked-in” syndrome – he is completely conscious but unable to let anyone know. As House develops a system to communicate with Lee by having him blink once for “no” and twice for “yes,” he is intrigued by the case and tries to figure out what is causing Lee’s condition, much to the disdain of the presiding physician. When House gets Lee transferred to Princeton Plainsboro, the team is on the case to try to save Lee. As we learn more about Lee and his family, we also see House and the team through Lee's unique perspective, lending insight into their not-so-transparent relationships. When Lee loses his ability to blink and continues to fall ill, the team must race to find the key to unlock his condition. Meanwhile, Wilson suspects House is hiding something from him when he refuses to divulge why he was in New York when he got into his motorcycle accident in the “Locked In” episode of HOUSE airing Monday, March 23 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. I thought this was a great episode - Mos Def was terrific. Nice touch with House being "locked in" at the end, if a tad obvious.
"I performed Euripides with sock puppets" I thought of you, sauty. ;-)
House was being a total dick to Taub. Stop it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grrrrrr! Glad he backed off at the end.
Oh Wilson - your brother's caregiver? Oy.

Loved this episode. A lot. I knew that House was in therapy (and props to travlncarrie for catching it first!). I'd kill to know what he talked about.
For never moving, Mos Def was an incredible guest star. I'm really excited for what these last episodes will bring.

Loved the episode. Mos Def was awesome.
It almost felt like two episodes to me.
I didn't get the "locked in" thing with House at the end?
Was something wrong or was it just a creative thing?
I of course need to rewatch. Kids and husbands.

Oh Em Gee. (Sorry, couldn't resist.) That ending...oh boy.
And I KNEW it, the second House called Wilson on dating someone, I knew he was deflecting to steer Wilson away from the real reason. I also knew House would be going to therapy. Ha. What for, that's the question though. (Thanks Chippers!)
I gotta say it: ANOTHER mention of neuro syphilis. AGAIN.
I really need to rewatch this. Loved the teensie bits of Cuddy & Chase & Cameron. Loved the whole thing.

House has so many reasons to be in therapy, who knows why he went now. I would have to assume it has to do with either Cuddy or Wilson, or at the bare minimum, relationship issues.
Wilson dating someone cracks me up. (someone that isn't House that is)
This episode was extremely well done.

I enjoyed that episode. Yay.
But the last scene and next week's preview kind of made me forget the details. Now I'm going to be in suspense all week...and not the good kind. :(

I was gonna say "WHAT DID I DO?! WAH!" :-)
spicy - it was a creative thing showing how locked in to himself House is (IMHO).

Didn't he say one of the members of the team was seeing the shrink so he was spying on him? Or did I just get completely confused. House's obsession with Wilson is kind of creepy at this point. LOL
The POTW was interesting and well played. I think Taub may been treated worse than any other member of House's teams. But I honestly still don't care about his character even when House is being a royal jerk to him. Of course, he was a jerk to Foreman for messing up the biopsy too, but not as much of a jerk as he was to Taub. There was a nice moment when he thanked Lee for moving the arrow. Kutner has a good side to him. It was nice to let Taub take credit for his decision. Also, does this mean that poor put upon 13 gets to be treated for Rat Pee Disease too since she developed a rash?
Oh, and just as an aside, my mother called me at the exact second Chase showed up on screen. Thanks, Ma.

Glad to have been unspoiled as to reason why he was in New York. And how very House to try something once, and decide it doesn't work.
And Mos Def's character (Lee), loved his reactions throughout, his running commentary. Interesting how his take on House in his own calm spot changed. When he first imagines House on the beach, House is almost cheerful, happy, agreeing that God sent him. And as he learns more about House, his image of him on that beach gets darker and darker, until the uncaring "now you're dying" bit.
His commentary on Foreman being boring and telling boring stories. Hee. Hee.
and Kutner is still great. Comes up with great ideas, but yet he's such a mensch he lets Taub steal it.

Okay, that's what I thought. I thought it was too obvious though and I was missing the deeper meaning!

Excellent choice of guest star. They needed someone with an interesting enough voice that he could hold our interest in a part that was mostly voice overs. But, at the same time, it couldn't be over the top. He had to sound real (after all, the guy had locked in syndrome, he isn't a talking cockroach.) I think Mos Def really pulled it off. The actress who played his wife was also excellent.
Oh, Wilson. You should have been content to figure out House's secret. Granted, when you have a secret, he loves to rub your nose in the fact that he knows what it is. But you should have known that confronting him with that knowledge would make him stop going to therapy.
All 9 regulars were in it and, other than Cuddy, they were all used well. (And she's had several recent episodes focus on her, so it was reasonable.) They even used Foreteen well.
I really liked Cameron's scene. She's finally figured out how to deal with House effectively. And, on a shallow note, one of my Hugh Laurie obsessions is his right clavicle (and the dip behind it.) I was very happy that scene had a lot of happy-making shots.

Great episode. But that last scene really worried me. I think House was talking about himself as much as the patient when he asked if the brain damage caused the wreck.
Will have to watch it again to see what I pick up.

I suspect that this was a time when Mos Def's other career as a rap artist played a big part in his ability to pull off the role. Not that other actors couldn't have done it, but he knows how only the voice can make a difference.
Didn't he say one of the members of the team was seeing the shrink so he was spying on him? Or did I just get completely confused.
I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case, which was why Wilson was so happy to have him continue to see the shrink, which of course House being House, he didn't. (This is the same guy who didn't finish his therapy sessions, remember.)
And the whole issue of whether Wilson was giving in to Oedipal or mastabatory issues in dating his brother's caretaker was great.
