Wow, if it did I can see why. That's quite a tongue twister.

From comment at another site...the enzyme name House couldn't pronounce.
Coproporphyrinogen III oxidase
If I remember correctly, Hugh has said that words such as "federal court order" give him accent problems. Wonder if he had difficulty saying the name.
See, the reason he has such problems with "r" is because he has non-rhotic speech, which means that in his natural speech he doesn't pronounce the "r" when it comes after a vowel (unless he's hyper-correcting at the ends of words such as "idea" and "drama"). That was a really long-winded way of saying, hells yes, it wouldn't surprise me if he did have issues with it. I'm not sure I could say it.

Or, as HL has put it, "Damn our lazy Rs."

When House said he couldn't pronounce it I thought it was really strange. I figured it must have been Hugh's problem because House would always try to show off that he was able to spout off complicated medical terms. It seemed out of character and odd to me - House ALWAYS knows exactly what he's talking about, lol.

Ok question about the desk.
Cuddy said it was the desk she had back in med school. I'm trying to figure out how House knew about it.
In S2's Humpty Dumpty when Cameron starts questioning Cuddy about House, Cuddy says she knew House when she was an undergrad. Canon does not give us any indication that House and Cuddy knew each other while she was in med school. (Do we even know where she went to med school?)
So while I believe House most likely got the desk there for her, how he knew about it confuses me.

House has joked before about not being able to pronounce some big medical term. And I took this instance as the same thing: a joke.
He did say the name of the patient's condition at one point (hereditary coproporphyria). What he said he couldn't pronounce is the enzyme deficiency that causes this condition. And again, I'm pretty sure he was joking about that, as he said "coproporphyria" just fine.

I'd guess it was the same desk she had in her apartment as an undergrad, or potentially that they met when she was an undergrad and he saw her when she was also in med school. (Most UM students I've run across have moved off campus after the first couple of years.)

Can anyone make out what House and the hooker are saying to each other in that final scene? I can hear House's voice, but I can't hear what he's saying, as the Coconut track is playing too loudly over the voice track.
He seems so cool and casual and relaxed with her. I realize it's probably because he will never see her again after their final three hours together. But I am still fascinated by their exchanges. They seem like old chums, what with the high-five in the earlier scene and all.

I can't hear it either, but I wondered the same thing...he did seem very chummy with her.

Maybe he's a frequent... flyer of hers?

Just watched again and here's a funny thing. Remember on the Hoggin' DVD in Man of Constant Sorrow when they're singing the close harmony a cappella and he loops his hand and "grasps" the notes? It sure seemed like a very similar gesture last night when Cuddy is naming the tests he doesn't want to do and tells him to refute them and he loops and grasps and blows (poof!) and refutes them. I just really liked that. :-)

I don't think we were meant to hear what House and the hooker were saying to each other; it was all in the body language. He is comfortable with her because they bonded over the prank and because they can be together with no emotional baggage.
BTW, I must respectfully disagree with the description of what he did to Cuddy as a "boob grab." He didn't grab; he lightly placed his hand on her breast. It was tender and tentative and awkward and so very House.
This is the guy who bought a corsage for Cameron for their date, which was roughly equivalent to tattooing "I'm clueless about dating" on his forehead. Corsages are lovely, but what guy buys a girl a corsage for a simple dinner date that isn't followed by the senior prom? In the scene with Cuddy, I can so see him thinking, "Well, we've already kissed so it must be time for second base."
Or maybe he was just copping a feel. But still, I saw no lechery or crassness in the gesture. I found it touching (no pun intended) ... and you all know how I feel about Huddy.
Since Stacy has said they moved in together after one date, I'm guessing that one date was a "naked and sweaty date," to borrow from S1 Foreman. They hit it off, they hit the sheets, no need for him to consider all the nuances of dating etiquette and timetables of courtship.

Great catch, Boffle. That gesture last night made me think of "Poof... cinq!" from his Emmy presentation with Helen Mirren. It wasn't quite the same, but it made me think of it nonetheless.

Yea, I know we weren't meant to hear what House and the hooker said to each other. That's the reason for the music track being louder than the voice track. But I can hear House's voice in that scene, and if I could isolate that track, I could probably make out what he's saying. I was simply wondering if anyone had tried to put the volume loud enough and could make out his words. I'm simply expressing my personal curiosity about what they said to each other.

It was a grab in the sense that it was out of nowhere, out of context, unexpected, etc. They were having a romantic moment, not a quickie in the office. He ruined the romantic moment.
In the scene with Cuddy, I can so see him thinking, "Well, we've already kissed so it must be time for second base."
House is really not that stupid about women and about dating. He has been on dates, and he has been in at least one long-term relationship. In this scene with Cuddy, he was being purposely jerky; it's clear in his face. It's clear when he says, "Could you leave these?" The look on his face is of intentional jerkiness.
Or maybe he was just copping a feel. But still, I saw no lechery or crassness in the gesture. I found it touching (no pun intended) ... and you all know how I feel about Huddy.
Would you have found it "touching" if he had done that to Cameron as she expressed feelings for him?
Boffle- 12-03-2008
Yep, I think there was a bit of that in there too NightOwl. So cute.
Thank you OldHamster, I thought it was gentle as well, not a crass boob grab but a question (is it ok for me to do this?) and when she turned and he kept his hand there, well that was an odd moment. She really should have called him on that right then. Since she didn't, he went with talking like a jerk. And then standing there despondently after she left. Sigh.
OldHamster- 12-03-2008
Would you have found it "touching" if he had done that to Cameron as she expressed feelings for him?
Actually, yes. Because it was House's way of expressing "I want to get closer" albeit inappropriate. She might have briefly found it shocking but understood what was behind it -- and understood that the jerky talk was a defense mechanism. Just as Cuddy did.
House has always been better at expressing his affection through gestures than in person -- the "prescription for a heart condition" for Stacy, the desk for Cuddy. I think he's lost a great deal of confidence in his ability to have a successful relationship since the infarction and Stacy's departure, and when he's face to face with an interested woman, he tests her -- acts like a jerk to see if she's willing to put up with it. I believe Cameron would have, given the chance. And from Cuddy's reaction at the end of this ep., I believe she would as well.
