The leap from flu to flu pills is not a terribly difficult one. They should have figured it out with a bit of head scratching after the bartender said she requested a napkin.
The bartender already told them that she sneezed -- and that's why he gave her a napkin -- not that she requested one, so they knew that, but it wasn't enough to actually solve the case.
And people sneeze for a lot of reasons, not just the flu. (For instance, I was sneezing this morning because of allergies and this afternoon from swimming laps in the pool -- something about the chlorine. Go figure.)

My bad about the napkin, you're right.
The point stands that figuring out what was wrong was a simple process of elimination. Sneezing is generally flu, cold, or allergies. If they knew she sneezed, they could look at her medical history and -*test*-('") for the usual suspects. Hell, they ought to have been able to look up that she was on amantadine (sp?). They knew she sneezed, they knew her kidneys were shot. To me, this seems like a simpler puzzle than they usually face.

Do people routinely take flu pills theses days? Must be out of step. I have never taken a flu pill in my life - but I've had the flu several times. Am I suffering for no reason?

Off topic here, rewatched NMMNG at at the end, when Kutner confronts House...House interestingly says he has some killing to do or a killing spree..paraphrasing here (in reference to Amber's snitching about his supposed syphillis). Foreshadowing?

I recently caught both strands of the flu at the same time (I'm an overachiever LOL) and was perscribed pills. I don't think it was the same thing Amber was taking though.

Oh, you poor thing! Did the pills actually help?
Totally off topic here. :P

Ugh... I'm not sure, really. I went from a week-long stomach virus to the flu to bacterial bronchitis, so I was really, really sick for the better part of a month. But I think the flu could have been a lot worse than it was. The bronchitis was worse for me than the flu. I had much higher temperatures with it. Let's just say I would take the pills again if given the choice because if anything was helping, I'd hate to know what being worse would have felt like!

Amber was a doctor, I'm guessing (continuing the female House thing) that she was not above getting a friend or coworker to prescribe the pills as a preventative. I can't see her as someone, especially in her profession where it would mean missing work, just letting the flu "run its course." I can also easily see it being something she wouldn't bother getting on her medical records or having an exam for, just hitting up a friend or coworker, "Hey, I'm getting the flu, can you prescribe me something? You know how it is," etc. Or even somehow getting them herself some other way.

Could someone clarify something for me?
It was said that Wilson was on call on that day - and so was Amber. So was he at home all day long and at some point was called and went to the hospital? And it's possible that House wasn't aware of that (that he was at the hospital) and that's why he called Amber's home, instead of Wilson's cell? I've read some fics that seems to imply that Wilson was at the hospital, but if so why would House look for him at home?
I know it's a silly thing to be obsessed about, but I can't help myself...

Wilson was on call the night of the bus crash. That doesn't mean that he had to be at the hospital, but rather if there was an emergency he'd be the doctor called in. House called the apartment thinking Wilson would be there, but he'd obviously been called in on something, and Amber answered instead. That's why Wilson was at the hospital that night when House ended up there.
Amber apparently was also on call sometime that night or early the next morning, and Wilson assumed she'd been called in on a case at some point, which was why he wasn't surprised that she wasn't home when he called (and that she must have been busy and didn't have time to return his call on her cell).

Thanks again, Namaste! :)
I thought he was on call during the day too - as if would be his day off but in an emergency he would be call - but it makes sense if he was on call at night, instead.

We had this episode (with House's Head) air last night and what a rollercoaster. It was aired as "movie length season finale" here in Australia.
I can't comment too much at this stage, as it was such a full on episode and I am still taking it all in. But I do wonder where it is going to take House and Wilson's relationship now?
Chipmunk_love- 06-06-2008
So after re-watching this episode, I've just realized the double-meaning in Amber's last note to Wilson: "Sorry I'm not here. Went to pick up House." She's not with Wilson, but she definitely picked House up off the pristine bus of death and placed him right back in the world. He couldn't save her, but she saved him.
Crying all over again.

Two things I picked up on this viewing (in between wiping my eyes and blowing my nose)
When House suggested the deep brain stimulation, they didn't have a diagnosis yet. That's very House -- he'll risk his life for a diagnosis. But when Wilson suggested it, House said there was no need. They already had the diagnosis. At that point in time, as far as House was concerned, the only reason to do it was because that was what Wilson wanted.
There are two ways to view the scene where Wilson looks at House in the ICU. I agree with the majority opinion that Wilson is angry at House for setting the course of events that ended in Amber's death in motion. However, I think that it can also be seen as there are only two people in the world who really matter to Wilson. Having just come from watching one of them die, he can't leave until he knows the other one is okay. He may not be ready to talk to House, but he waited outside the ICU until he saw that House was conscious and recognized him.
And, on a shallow note, I spent half the episode wanting to untuck Wilson's shirt so it would stop billowing a foot wide around his waist.
Boffle- 06-06-2008
There's a third way to view that last scene. Wilson knows that the one thing House will want to know when he wakes up is whether Amber is alive or dead, whether he risked his life and saved her or if it in fact did no good.
With the likelihood of damage/memory loss from House's concussion, skull fracture, the meds, the heart attack and the seizure, Wilson realizes that House may not remember that he figured out the flu pill diagnosis. So, whether he's angry with him or too devastated to feel anything, Wilson gets House's attention and lets him see in his eyes that she is gone. And with that bit of duty done, he heads home. To find the note. :sob:
