I did find the irony in Wilson having to tell Amber that she was dying. Doubt House and Wilson are ever going to joke about Wilson's magical communication abilities again.
Great point Chipper.
The note was an amazing thing.
Sorry I'm not here. I went to pick up House.
It could be read as a modicum of blame.
I think the future for H/W will be less about hate, but the mix of emotions after a tragedy like this. Sorrow, anger, incomprehension, need...
Wilson will have to have time and love but he will come around.
I thought the ending was very gentle. Wilson goes to check on House. Seeing that Cuddy is with him and that House is awake he knows that House will be alright. But he can't go to him now. He's exhausted and bereft, he goes home to collapse and grieve.

Okay, it wasn't House's fault. Yeah, she got on the bus because of him but wouldn't she have died because of the pills anyway? When House said Wilson was going to hate him and then Amber said he kind of deserved it, I was like "Whaaa?" Did I miss something? She was already taking the pills right? So she still would have died, right?
Even though she was already taking the pills, her renal system was able to filter it out properly because she was healthy. The bus accident caused renal failure, which in turn caused the Amantadine poisoning because the dialysis couldn't filter the same way the kidneys did. Had she not been on the bus, and then the accident - or had they had one more/less drink - their timing would have been different and then they would not have been in the accident. Or, if Amber just hadn't come to pick up House.

I'm crying too much to be coherent right now.
Hugh and Robert should both get Emmys for this episode.
I'll be the Debbie Downer and point out that, at least for me, Amber made a bigger splash than all 3 new ducklings put together.
I can't stop crying. I have to go watch it again.
There was a weird episode photo leaked with House on a sidewalk talking to a woman who was partially covered by a parking meter or something. Do you all remember that? Am I crazy or was that cut? It wasn't in either of these last two episodes.

i notice the irony from the last bus scene with house and amber, didn't house mention this as an analogy in Living the Dream with the soap star? wow.. that was what first hit me when i saw the bus scene (which was also very poignant i agree)

I think I just spawned new love for the three new ducklings from this ep. ;__; And Amber's gone just when I began to like her.

No, the only reason she died was because the crash destroyed her kidneys and she couldn't filter the meds out of her system...so she was poisoned. :(

I really want to read the missing scene where they get Chase to agree to the brain stimulation. Since Wilson seemed to be the only one assisting, I got the impression it wasn't exactly a Cuddy-approved procedure. And I'm glad they changed the makeup on Amber's head wound, 'cause it was grossing me out last ep.
Me too. I was really looking forward to that, but naturally it got cut.
I enjoyed seeing Chase several times, but it would have been nice to have some actual character interactions instead of just proceedural stuff. I mean, it's great to know that House trusts Chase enough to let him poke around in his brain and it's nice to know he values Wilson enough to risk his life for something Wilson wants. It was also nice to see Chase and Cameron meet Foreman at the end and since they arrived together, I guess we can assume that they are still together. So, we saw Wilson being selfish and House being self-sacrificing. I can buy into that. I think it's a shame that Wilson didn't bother to speak to House when he saw House was awake though. House is in that coma because Wilson asked him to do this incredibly risky thing. It's a shame they killed off the best of the new characters and kept the worst.
So my question is, would Amber have died anyway bus or not? My understanding is that she would have because of the poisoning from the medicine? Or would that have been treatable if not for all the other injuries? (ETA... I see this was answered while I was typing!)

Group hug anyone?
I need one.
I do feel for 13 but it's just a bit overshadowed right now what with heartbroken!Wilson and heartbroken!House and dead!Amber.
YAY for some background on Kutner, it's about time.

Not necessarily; if her kidneys hadn't been damaged in the bus crash, she might have had a chance.
I never cared for 13 but it broke my heart when her Huntington's diagnosis came up positive. That is one of the worst ways to go ever. Please don't think me mean for hoping (and this is not a spoiler; I haven't a clue about S5 but I'll spoiler tag it anyway) that season 5 opens with her having committed suicide rather than face the horrendous decline and death that comes with Huntington's..
House's little "get over your issues and do your job" speech -- could that have been any more "13 is Cam 2.0" anvilicious?
Oh, Wilson. I'm crying. And sending virtual hugs to a fictional character on a TV show. Yes, I'm pathetic.
arizonamyrie- 05-19-2008
You have to wonder if it really would have been Amber's intention to wake up and be told she's dying. Was Cuddy right? Was Wilson right? What would have been better for everyone? Other than Amber not getting on the bus.

Between last week's episode and this one, if between Hugh, RSL, the scripts, and the show itself, they don't at least get one Emmy, there's something seriously wrong.
LightMyCandle- 05-19-2008
No. She only died because her kidneys failed - they failed because of the bus accident & therefore her heart couldn't handle the drug, If her kidneys hadn't been damaged in the accident she wouldn't have died.
Thank you, I was totally confused. It makes sense now.
House not wanting to get off the bus because it didn't hurt there and he didn't want Wilson to hate him. "He's my best friend." Oh, crap, here I go again.

ITA, this ended much better than I thought it would. Wilson just can't deal with House right now and that's understandable, but it's not the "hate" I was fearing/expecting.
I liked the end with the original ducklings getting together, I thought that was a cute little touch.
I started crying when Cuddy told Wilson to wake Amber up and I didn't stop until the end.

In addition to the love for RSL and HL (and Anne Dudek's) acting in this, can I put in a word for Katie Jacobs' directing? She doesn't have the chops for something as complex and technical as "House's Head," but I do think she has an ability to work with actors and get a lot of emotional depth out of them. For one, she seems to get HL to relax into a truly sexy moment -- first with Cameron in "Half-Wit," and now with Anne Dudek here. (I love HL, and the character is a wonderfully sexy character, but HL always seems a bit ... tight, if you will, in kissing scenes, except for those two.)

And guilt. Don't forget guilt. House can't forgive himself for failing to be happy for his parents. How will he react to this? His moments in the bus, noting that it's not right for a miserable, misanthropic, drug addict to live while a young woman in love dies is not something that he will get over, never mind Wilson.

Okay, so before he lost his memory, did House know that there wasn't going to be anything they could do for her? I mean, when he was trying to remember last week, he knew someone was going to die if he couldn't find them and treat them. And, even after he remembered it was Amber, he still tried to diagnose her. But, he saw her take the pills on the bus and, of course, saw the crash. So, he must have known from the start that nothing could be done. Maybe that's why he lost his memory for that time? Needed to convince himself that he just needed to figure it out so they could treat it?

And for many directors, that can be just as hard if not harder.

Totally. And Wilson may blame House at first, but he'll come around. I hope that it will be because House proves to Wilson that he's willing to do whatever it takes to be there for him at the beginning of S5.
