Oh, I forgot about the two meta jokes! And they were truly meta, because they weren't explained within the context of the show (the Tuesday line and the "Bob" line). I shall consider them a treat to the fans. I think you have to think of the "Bob" line as a meta joke, because if you weren't aware RSL's real name was Robert, the joke makes zero sense. ;) As to watching Wilson fall down the stairs drunk, I would watch that over and over. Actually, that could have been a thirty second Superbowl special all by itself. *g* I didn't realize I was enjoying the episode until about thirty minutes in, and then I started to REALLY enjoy it. I laughed out loud a few times and then started talking back to the screen. I did for real. Cameron didn't bother me-- I actually found her prank on House amusing-- and when Cuddy said that she'd fired Cameron I believed her at first and then started shouting, "Bullshit, Cuddy. BULLSHIT." Seriously. You'd have to light the building on fire before they'd fire you at PPH. And even then they'd think about it before kicking you out.

BTW, was I the only one wanting to know how, in the opening scene with House, House managed to climb up onto the chair, balance himself and, even more importantly, climb down. Especially in that I, at least, saw no cane in the frame. I actually think it can be done without much difficulty. If he sat on the chair, pulled in the healthy leg so that his foot is on the chair, then held the back of the chair while standing up on the healthy leg, I think it would be possible. I tested it, letting one of my legs go completely limp.

I may have a new favorite line from the episode. After Taub announces that Cate's on birth control pills and that frequent sex could cause kidney stones House says "excessive Antartctic drillling--bad for the environment and for the ladies!"

I loved the ep sooo much. Definetly my favorite of the season. From the promos and our discussion here, I had decided I wasn't going to like Mira Sorvino, but she was really great. I loved her when she was analysing Wilson! Wilson was absolutely fantastic in this ep! I laughed so hard. I enjoyed the scene between the newbies and Cameron. I even enjoyed Cameron... I went  with House's line to Sean "I am not going to let you hurt her. Please, this is her only chance". I paused and yelled "Who are you and what have you done with House?" But then he said "That was easy" and I was a little relieved. Kutner=love. Turns ouy he is a real doctor after all. Definetly sensing Kutner/13.. And House's look when he saw Amber? Hee *evil laugh* I don't think she was on his list.

I def pictured the scene in my minds eye when Wilson mentioned the falling down stairs drunk (I imagined House just looking at it with mild interest, like, "hmm"). So great. This ep was such a gold mine: awesome House/Wilson, no annoyance from cuddy or cam, Mira was super, sexy subtext, a ton of funny lines . . . wow. And the NKs weren't annoying. I could have lived without the urine tasting, but whatevs. I kept telling myself "its lemonade, its lemonade!!"

ETA: Oh, about not realizing you've broken a toe - entirely possible. Some time ago, some celebrity (why do I think it might have been Liz Taylor?) went for weeks (in California heat) without knowing. Though I don't know if it was the big toe. Yes, I know of situations like this, too. Some people haven't realised when they've broken an arm! With the cold in the station and the constant cold feet, I don't think it stretched credibility she both hadn't taken her socks off and hadn't realised she'd broken a toe. A toe can look that bad within a few hours, so she's probably broken it very recently before the ep started, and she was very busy and/or sick from then on. Did anyone but me notice that Sean (Shawn?) was House's proxy? The episode starts with him injuring... come on... you noticed it, too... his right thigh. He physically performs the tests House would do if he could. The fact that he's in love with her means he will do anything to save her... not unlike House. And at the end when House says, "He likes her," he sure seemed to actually be saying, "I like her." This is just lovely. There were a couple of nice echoing moments in the ep that deepened the exchanges. When House grouses to Cate that she's psychoanalysing him just like Wilson, Cate points out that he likes Wilson, too. That seems to play nicely off Wilson going out with Amber, who has Houselike traits. I love the way the writers embed so much in what should be reasonably straightforward situations.

Maybe I'm still in the afterglow, but does anyone else think if tomorrow night is the last new ep. we get this season, Frozen could be submitted as Emmy consideration for Hugh, Mira Sorvino, and RSL? I'm not sure who submits for Emmy consideration on behalf of actors (as opposed to the show itself where I think the producers submit) but back in season two RSL told Maureen Ryan of the Chicago Sun-Times on the subject, “Honestly, I’m okay. I don’t want an Emmy. This is what I want -- I know exactly what I want...I’ve never been happier than where my career is now." He elaborated that he has achieved all his career goals and got his dream by winning the Tony, so he's not interested in anything else. So if it's his choice I'm not sure if he's ever submitted anything. Of course he would be deserving, but I think we all know that this is not the type of role that garners Emmy attention, even though IMO it's in some ways harder than the flashier supporting roles that do get attention. Def. agree Mira will get a nomination, though, because of her name recognition.

Def. agree Mira will get a nomination, though, because of her name recognition. That and the shortened season. I actually think she was excellent this episode, but it wasn't a showy part or awards bait. If there had been a full season, many more shows would have brought in big names for guest spots during the two big sweeps periods, and I don't think she would have had much of a chance. If she gets a nomination, it won't be because of much respect for her acting skills. From what I've read, most people think that her Oscar was a complete fluke.

Like "Frozen"? Like "Ugly"? Same director: David Straiton. Three cheers for Dave!!! Liz Friedman wrote "Frozen" and Sean Whitesell wrote "Ugly": Yay, Liz and Sean!!! They do indeed smell of newly mown grass...

Also, the only physician in the expedition is a psychiatrist?????A psychiatrist is a physician, a medical doctor who completed medical school and residency (and probably a Fellowship). Her specialty is psychiatry, but presumably, with her medical training, she can take care of the majority of the medical problems that arise. Hence also why she was able to do her own medical procedures and run her own labs.

... so he's not interested in anything else. So if it's his choice I'm not sure if he's ever submitted anything. I'm sure it is not up to him because while he may not care if he is nominated or wins TPTB do. They want every opportunity for nods and wins as it is good exposure for the show. The actors do not I believe make the decision on what is submitted most likely handled by the Producers. Like with the Oscars actors don't place trade ads for themselves (although they could) the company that distributes the film / the production co. typically does. Of course he would be deserving, but I think we all know that this is not the type of role that garners Emmy attention, even though IMO it's in some ways harder than the flashier supporting roles that do get attention.ITA here unless we get an episode that focuses almost exclusively on House and Wilson there is just not enough material from any one or two episodes to get him into what is typically a very competitive category. Def. agree Mira will get a nomination, though, because of her name recognition. I wouldn't be surprised but I'm not sure it's a lock. MS could have a better chance because the guest category does tends to like high profile names in it and fluke or no she is an Academy Award winner. I quite like her in Mighty Aphrodite it's sort of a goofy role for Oscar consideration like Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinnie and so different from who she is and what she sounds like in real life that it propelled her forward. Plus it's often even difficult to find enough good substantial roles for Actress in films (as it will be in this abbreviated TV season for guest stars) so that helps. And the Oscars are not exactly unknown for notable flukes even out-right head scratchers.

Namaste- 02-04-2008

Hee Hee. House certainly seems to be wearing Kutner's watch, at least from what I could see on my screen.

They do indeed smell of newly mown grass... Boffle - Liz Friedman also wrote Hunting, Forever, MLC, and Family (which Straiton also directed). Family had lots of great H/W stuff too. She's an excellent writer - Frozen and MLC are both great episodes, but couldn't be more different. Frozen definitely ended better in the House/Wilson department for sure :)

You'd have to light the building on fire before they'd fire you at PPH. And even then they'd think about it before kicking you out. At least it's not as bad as Seattle Grace where you can steal a heart and kill a man and all you get is a slap on the wrist. I had decided I wasn't going to like Mira Sorvino, but she was really great. I loved her when she was analysing Wilson! I decided I wouldn't like her either, I'm happy to admit I was wrong. She did a great job. House's look at the end when he saw Amber was priceless. I just kept picturing Wilson trying to gently explain the situation to House. "House, this is my very special friend, Amber. I like her a lot but it doesn't mean that I love you any less, okay big guy?" I also really enjoyed Foreman in this one too, I always like it when he's with Wilson, he seems to act like less of a jerk when he's around him.

Yes, I am aware that a psychiatrist is a physician. Based on Mira Sorvino's age, Cate would have finished college in 1989 and medical school in 1993. If she knew she was going into psychiatry, she probably did a one year general residency from 1994-1995 before specializing. So we have someone who has not practice medicine in term of physical ailments in 12 1/2 years who is in charge of repairing severed femoral arteries and any other serious physical injuries that may arise. She would be qualified to deal with sprains and frostbite. Her familiarity with anatomy makes her checking her nodes possible. In a world where someone who is board certified in immunology and who quits part-way through her next fellowship is therefore qualified to become director of Emergency Services and where an Intensivist is magically qualified to be a surgeon, it is possible. In the real world, it was absurd. And considering that, other than a joke about House needing psychiatry and her ability to instantly analyze him, there was nothing in the episode which required her to be a psychiatrist. She could have been a perceptive specialist in family medicine or general surgery just as easily (and Wilson's joke could have been fitted into another episode next year.)
