And than of course there's Dr. Bob: "a quack who has gone to the dogs."

DrSpaceman- 02-05-2008

If he's not in part one of the two parter, he's been deliberately left out of a very special episode. Though to be clear, there is no two parter. KJ said they scrapped it with the writer's strike. Now whether they'd go back and do it if the strike is resolved and with the same plot, maybe. But tonight's likely is the last episode of the reason. If the strike is resolved they may very well have moved on to other things plot wise such as perhaps shown with these two final episodes. Apparently the two-parter was only very tentative in the planning stages so it may indeed have been scrapped altogether, so there's no guarantee it will ever see the light of day.

Though to be clear, there is no two parter. KJ said they scrapped it with the writer's strike. My impression, and I know I may be offbase, was the two parter was in more than a tentative planning stage. TPTB were talking it up as the Superbowl ep until quite recently, when Katie talked to Ausiello. I thought they had the two parter done to a fairly advanced state, but with the strike continuing, could not get it to a broadcast state. That's what I'm hoping, because then they have not one but two eps that would be relatively quick to finish. :D

DrSpaceman- 02-05-2008

TPTB were talking it up as the Superbowl ep until quite recently, when Katie talked to Ausiello. The only mention of it I've seen was Katie with Ausiello and it sounded to me like it was still way tentative. But I can't find her exact quote at the moment, though I recall definitely getting the impression of "yeah, we had to scrap that, but we were thinking of doing this" rather than "we were shooting a two parter and almost finished shooting it but the writer's strike derailed it."

Namaste- 02-05-2008

I don't know if they finished shooting it, but my impression was that they hoped to finish writing it so it could be still be filmed, but when that wasn't done, they rejiggered the schedule to make "Frozen" the post-Superbowl episode. You've got to figure -- or I should say that I figure -- that if the two-parter was three-quarters written it doesn't make sense to completely dump what was written when they pick things up again. I would expect that they'll pick up that and whatever scripts they have in the process once the strike ends.

What I'm thinking of, and also don't have the quote to hand (and it's late) is her interview with Ausiello before the one where she talked about the switch. In that one, Ausiello was all atwitter because she was talking about something happening that he interpreted as either advancing the Cuddy or Cameron ship. I think this was after Christmas, which seems late to be publicising an ep which was still in the tentative talking stage and not in some state where they still hoped they could pull it all together if the strike was settled quickly. I think it was very soon after this interview that KJ then talked to him about the switch. But this is all speculation, and you may well have the right end of the stick.

When they were DDXing in the hall (because the office was the patient room), House took a pill. That's the first one I remember him taking in ages.

sasmom's excellent review is up! http://blogcritics.org/archives/2008/02/07/124948.php Good review. I concur. One thing that struck me during Frozen was when House was talking Sean through the drilling, I think that was perhaps the first time that any of the ducklings have seen House's softer side with a patient first hand. The scene reminded me very much of when House had to talk another guy, also named Sean, through the decision making process of allowing them to do a C-Section on his soon to be dead wife. The kind of scenes that allows the audience to love House but keeps his own staff mystified. It needed to be Foreman as a witness since Cameron probably already assumes that he's got it in him--maybe even Chase does as well. It would have been lost on the newbies altogether. And it jibes that Foreman maybe has a new found respect for House? And begins to put his own powers of observation about 13 to use in the next episode much like Chase began to do last season when he walked in on the couple having sex and deduced immediately that they were having an affair.

Thanks, guys. I thought that scene was so important. foreman needed to see House for who he really is, and what Wilson was referring to in Human Error with his whole shtick about Foreman leaving because he doesn't want to be who he BELIEVES House to be. That was a perfect scene to show Dr. Self-righteous the sensitivity behind the harshness. Loved that scene.

You know, it occurred to me that in the midst of all the joy and squeeing over the past two episodes, I'd overlooked something. In "Frozen" we get canon confirmation of fanon -- that House has problems sleeping. (The scotch/bourbon discussion in which Cate points out Scotch as being proof that House has problems getting to sleep, and he corrects her only that it's bourbon, not on the sleeping issues.)

I thought of you and your 'obsession' with canon instantly when we got that line about the insomnia :)

I was thinking about this ep... didn't she have her socks off at a different time other than when House realized Kutner was right? I have a vague memory of it.

TrooperCam- 02-10-2008

Watched the episode again. Didn't like the broken toe explanation. Cate strips down to do the X-ray and takes her clothes off to do the biopsy check but at no time checks her foot or changes her socks? Come on I spent six months in the desert with no showers and still managed to change my socks and underwear. The first time I watched I didn't see the scar but the second time I noticed it. I was afraid there they had forgotten it..can you imagine what would have happened if they had??? Loved the Bob comment, thankfully I wasn't eating or drinking at that time or else it would be all over the moniter. It was a shoutout without being an abvious shoutout. Have to say that other than a few things I could quiblbe about....one being January is a time they can get flights in out and out Antartica I found this to be a solid episode and a good one to follwo th Giants win :) Woohoo

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25054286/?GT1=43001 Well Cate may not have been having sex because she was studying everyone but it doesn't mean SOMEONE on the island is having it :) I got to say having been a part of supply flights it is pretty funny what will go on the plane. I haven't done an Antarticia flight but we dropped off over 16 thousand pounds of Pringles and beer after earthquakes hit Maui in 2007.
