I really liked the patient, both the actor and the character. It's been awhile since I connected with a patient enough to really care about the outcome. Usually I just want House to solve the puzzle. Tonight I wanted the patient to survive. Me too. I haven't been that into a PotW in ages. I actually cried. The actor was amazing and I just loved the character. He was so joyous when he was on the slant table - it really got to me. And, one of my favorite scenes was between House and Scooter, when he told him he would miss him the most. I don't know if it was a quote from somewhere (sounded vaguely Wizard of Oz-ish, Yep. Wizard of Oz. "Scarecrow, I'll miss you most of all." I love Scooter - I want him to stick around. When did Wilson quote "My Fair Lady"? I was in a room full of talking college kids. When H/W were in the cafeteria. House was completely ignoring Wilson while he was talking, so Wilson paraphrased the quote from My Fair Lady about the rain in Spain falling mainly on the plain.

Wasn't the patient's disease based on that of Lerner's son? So he had the character who represents his son DIE?? It is, but its also the reality of this disease. Patients die young & in a lot of pain. I thought it was astonishing that they didn't sugar coat it. There was a fund raiser the cast attended last night to raise awareness of the disease as well as dollars to support research. Am I the only one who thought the potw's comment of wanting to get out of his useless body (or whatever it was exactly) factored in to House's decision to stick the knife into the wall socket? yes, but I don't think the rest of the ep was lazy, they needed it to balance just how dark & depressing an ep this is. think about it, two patients dead, also the dog, multiple medical mistakes by the team and House on Cuddy's watch. They really went for a grand slam there. Speaking of Huddy, House and Wilson checking out Cuddy's behind? OT3, anyone? Definitely!

It feels like we've been waiting forever to see Wilson at House's bedside. I know I have. Thank you Dear Sweet Lord. Good things really do come to those who wait.

I imagine a lot of people do. I for one don't see any sign of it whatsoever. Maybe because I'm such a fatalist I keep thinking this is the season they're going to get House romantically involved - and not with Wilson damn it! Edited by HTR to remove extra quote tag

And then later she accuses him (implicitly) of not taking responsibility for his part in the death, but when have we ever seen him not bear (heavily) responsibility for patient failures? I really hope Cuddy comes across better on re-watch; otherwise I've finally lost all respect for her. I think a lot of this has to do with what House lets people see. His reaction when Cuddy was there was more flippant than it was when she wasn't around.

the fact that 13 won't say her name is really annoying.

Oh, feh, I swore to myself I was going to rewatch (and read the previous posts) before getting into the House/Wilson, but I couldn't even post my first impressions without glimpsing the "internet exploded" comments, so I can't resist. Before my first impressions get contaminated by analysis and others' posts, I'll say this much: I think the "I love you" was real, but that House wants Wilson and TPTB want the audience to be able to dismiss it as a joke if that's what they're comfortable doing. Whether the "real" was platonic or not, that I'll leave for the analysts.

I loved the 97 seconds worth of Chase in the episode, especially the "Why are you yelling at me?" bit. It was also good that he saw right through CutThroatBitch. Seeing Foreman in action did nothing to make me miss him--nothing at all. I realized how completely UNconvincing he was leading the team. It sounded like he was reading all those medical terms off a cue card on the other side of the camera. I like CutThroatBitch more than any of the other Numbers. Thirteen just needs to go. She's flat. She's boring. It's her fault the dog is dead. My thoughts on the opening was "OHMYBOB! She's going to hit the dog!" I was actually a lot more worried about the dog than the guy. When the guy asked for his dog and asked for his hand to be put on the dog and said he wasn't scared, I cried. And, yeah, it was really all about the dog. I was cheering Wilson on when he yelled at House about telling the patient there was no afterlife. It doesn't matter if there is or isn't. The patient had some hope and that's what mattered. And I do love it that House told Wilson "I love you."

But I'm still floating on the casual My Fair Lady quoting pain med dispensing loved Wilson to really be too thoughtful. I'm SO with you on this one. Personally, I wasn't taken w/the Foreman plot line. Reminded me (and not in a good way) of last season. Here it was -- how long til he disobeys newCuddy and this time saves the patient? And goes back to House? Every time Foreman hit the screen I groaned. Like the POTW -- first time in a while. Loved the dog! Felt H's attempted whatever was forced but if it gave us hovering Wilson screen time, it was mighty fine. Hated Tribal Council House. Didn't work other than for a chintzy promo. Minimal Cameron -- good. Casual Wilson -- excellent. Hurt House/Comforting Wilson -- priceless!!!!

Is he envious that he didn't get that glimpse of experiential truth (the first time around)? Possibly yes. remember he says the patient's experience was all endorphin driven. he got that version in his three stories hallucinations plus then, he was seriously hyped up on pain & pain killers. He might have believed that would influence the type of experience he had & now with less complicating factors he might get the "after-life" version.

HELP! I am on a tape delay, and haven't caught the "I love you" yet. Where does it happen in the tape (early, late, etc?)

fffaw- 10-09-2007

I think it was so interesting that House wanted to talk to knife/socket guy as soon as he woke up. I think that House did see something and I think Wilson knows that. Wilson was pretty insistent in questioning House, but I'm sure he also knows getting an answer out of him would be like getting blood from a stone. I am on a tape delay, and haven't caught the "I love you" yet. Where does it happen in the tape (early, late, etc?) It's late in the episode.

SaphronGirl- 10-09-2007

I think the "I love you" was real, but that House wants Wilson and TPTB want the audience to be able to dismiss it as a joke if that's what they're comfortable doing. Whether the "real" was platonic or not, that I'll leave for the analysts. I'll second that! The "I told you so" to the POTW confirms that there was nothing... and that made House realize that this time on earth that he has is IT. If he doesn't accept his true feelings for Wilson, he'll never get another chance at happiness..

extra_cat- 10-09-2007

Oh, and isn't Cuddy supposed to be one of THREE female Deans of Medicine in the USA? One of the other ones just happens to be at Mercy? (Or did I dream that? It seems rather low, but I swear I heard that!)
