3.17 Fetal Position From tv.com:
A famous celebrity photographer suffers from a stroke while being pregnant at her early forties. House and his team have to deal with a great dilemma, save the mother or her unborn child.

This is the episode I hated most in season 3. More so even than ODOR (which at least had some H/W interaction). Because:
I was severely disappointed in Cuddy for letting her emotions & maternal longings getting the better of her common sense & objectivity. I like her as the ruthless hospital administrator who can keep House in check. I do not like her playing at being House.
I couldn't stand House being affected by the baby grabbing his finger. And then after that he stops calling it a fetus and starts calling it a baby (vomit). This is another one of those vile mechanisms for trying to persuade us that House does have a heart, really, deep down. Why is this necessary?
I was terrified all this was going to lead to House agreeing to father Cuddy's baby the following ep. Actually I'm still terrified of this.
What on earth was all that House going on holiday/not going on holiday stuff supposed to be about? (Really, I'd like to know!)
Virtually no Wilson and no H/W at all. (OK this is the killer point for me).
Mitigating features? Uh, I quite liked the POTW. Even though I was rooting for her fetus to die by the end just to avoid the schmultz.
No offence intended to those who might empathise with the POTW, or indeed Cuddy, in this position. Just my two cents.

wow, would you mind getting out of my head hwshipper, because that's exactly what I think about Fetal Postition. Another patient I didn't care about at all.

I agree - worst episode. My enjoyment of episodes generally correlates with the amount of Wilson, the amount of funny and the amount of H/W. I'm a simple girl.
Basically, I say more Wilson, less Cuddy. Or, if there has to be Cuddy, bring back kick-ass!Cuddy, whom I adored. Brand-spanking-new!Cuddy makes me want to hit the fast forward button.

Great, another person who's reading my mind lol. Once again, exactly my sentiments. I rate my episodes by the amount and the quality of the Wilson or House/Wilson scenes. Yes, it's shallow, but I don't really care.

This was actually one of my favorite episodes. I really liked the PoTW and the plot. Actually, I think she was my favorite POTW ever. I know a lot of people were bothered by the baby hand, but that didn't bother me at all.
I suppose I also rate an episode on the Chase-o-Meter and this one had some great Chase scenes. "I always glow" is one of my favorite Chase-isms.

Chase was adorable when he said 'I always glow', hee.
Problem is, I'm an intolerant person - I rarely actually like the POTW's. I'm either indifferent to them or just plain dislike them :D

I also liked the PotW a lot in this one - she gave off the impression of being accustomed to, uh, strong personalities, as it should be in her job! At the same time, Anne Ramsay really projected warmth and love for her child.
The concept that they're playing with here - Cuddy and House switching their roles - is actually an interesting one. And really, the end point of that should be that indeed, they both have a place in the role that they have. I just didn't think the execution was all that great.
The stuff with Chase and Cameron was actually all right, and I thought the episode did a great job of showing how deeply Chase was concealing what was happening. The conversation between Cuddy and Cameron, on the other hand, was a big pile of inconsistent stupidity. I get what the writers were trying to communicate - that no one understood the dynamic between Cameron and Chase and everyone expected kind, sensitive Cameron to end up hurt - but honestly, it made no sense when you consider that Cuddy had a fling with House and rehired STACY, for heaven's sake.

rehired STACY
In light of the aftermath of that, I wonder if that might have made Cuddy a bit less accepting of Cameron/Chase? There's also the issue that one of the things she objected to was the janitor-closet sex House told her about - that could have played a role in influencing her mood, its not exactly something she would want a donor or patient to walk in on, regardless of the Ch/Cam relationship & that is how she opens the conversation - "sleeping with Dr Chase?" I thought she was being too polite to mention she knew where it was happening.
:waves to vita!:

Thank God I'm not the only one...
With so little H/W I couldn't really like it, but other than that I found it an averange episode. The lack of subtlely was bothersome, everybody reactions were too predictable and the baby hand... no coments...
In my private ranking of "Worst Episodes" this would be number 6...

I really hated them recycling the urban legend about the baby's hand grabbing the surgeon's finger just to manipulate the audience. That legend is FAKE, the fetus/baby is SEDATED! Another example of how S3 disregarded the medicine to go for the drama.

I hated that scene so much it's not even funny. It made both mr GG and me go  , actually pretty much the whole episode made me go

Actually, I was just relieved mother and/or baby didn't die. Both pregnant women episodes previously have destroyed me. The one where the wife dies and her baby lives KILLS me. (Seriously. I was doing okay until the end and then I just bawled.)
I am a wuss.

March, that's because in House, sex kills. The mother in FP wasn't having sex and thus, alive she stays!
SaphronGirl- 09-04-2007
This is on tonight... I'm debating back and forth whether to watch it again... I can hardly remember anything from the original airing (except the baby-hand grab *vomit*).
