3.14 InsensitiveFrom
tv.com:
It's Valentine's Day, and Cuddy has a blind date. Meanwhile, House leaves ER duty to take the case of a child patient named Hannah.
Next in my series of pontifications with too many quotes from Episodes I Like while eating lunch at work... Insensitive is one of my favourite eps in season 3 (though I hasten to add that's only after the humungous H/W fest of Act Your Age/ House Training/ Family/ Resignation, and also SOCG). Because...
It shows H/W bantering, or each trying their best to, post-Tritter. On the weird lawyer from the board with eleven fingers who likes nurses who used to be men. (Oh God has anyone got a plot bunny from that?) Splendid quotes include:
House: We could be ranking nurses in order of doability.
And Wilson; Is it possible for you to just watch me eat?
Wilson confronts House over why he wants the nerve biopsy; he pulls rank as friend & sends House's staff out of the room (yay!); and he's right and House knows he's right; and House listens because we know in the end he does listen to Wilson.
And best of all, H & W go off to spend Valentine's Day morning having breakfast together!
In other news; I also really enjoyed the House/Cuddy stuff with House ruining Cuddy's Valentine blind date. I can't be the only one who cracked up when the guy said I own Eastern Lube. And finally, this was one of those POTWs that I found memorable and interesting too. Woah!
Insensitive will always hold a special place in my heart because it was the first time I really believed that they were going to be okay, post-Tritter. It was also the first time I believed that Wilson was not the only one interested in saving their friendship. When House tried, awkwardly, to get the subject back on Trannys and then he hesitantly stole his food again, it was like a weight was lifted from my shoulders. I was like, "awwww, House does love him."
Word, LMC! I love that scene and the next with the "God! Wilson's annoying!"
At the end we saw: Foreman is alone (coldly dumped Wendy, that idiot!), Cuddy is alone (poor girl), Chase and Cameron are together but without a hint of emotion. Just House and Wilson seem to be happy with each other company and go out to have Valentine's Day breakfast. Is there anything there that I can not love?
Something I realized while watching this again is that I don't mind when they take liberties with the medicine nearly as much as it annoys me when they write a character in a way that seems wacko. I can "believe" that House would cut into a girl without anesthesia, thus giving her an emotional trauma to deal with the rest of her life, much more easily than I can "believe" that Cameron is dumb enough to think that she can actually distract House by kissing him to the point that she could draw blood. I can believe that Chase would suggest "torturing" a patient much more easily than I can believe that he would rewrite history (having never heard her declare, "I'm glad we never slept together") and assume that Cameron had slept with House and ask her about it in public. Maybe it boils down to the POTW's not being nearly as important to me as the core characters. Or maybe I like the drama in the medical drama. Whatever it is, I hope they keep the insanity with the patients and write the core characters with consistency.
