If they don't win an Emmy, I'm blaming ODOR (whether they submitted it or not! ;) )

galaxygirl- 08-13-2007

Nope - we don't know House's episode submissions yet (well, we know that Half-Wit is there, but we don't know the other 5). It'd be terrible if they did submit OD,OR. Just why? I vaguely remember reading that there might be a different set of episodes. I think it said there were 5 submitted for the nomination and now 6 for the actual award. (I didn't like Half-Wit either, I'm terribly picky with what I did and didn't like about season 3). I could be way off base, my strength is that award show in february, not the Emmy's lol.

OD,OR was submitted for best writing (I know, right?)

OD,OR was submitted for best writing (I know, right?) which is why it didn't get nominated (see the Emmy's get it right every now and then ;))

Perhaps there are actually women on the Emmy Committee? *snerk*

Half-wit and ODOR was submit? Please, shot me if you gonna tell me that they also submit Top Secret...

Half-wit and ODOR was submit? Please, shot me if you gonna tell me that they also submit Top Secret... If they do that, they might as well just ingrave the award and give it to the Soprano's.

If they do that, they might as well just ingrave the award and give it to the Soprano's. You mean they haven't already?

LeGrotesque- 08-14-2007

I tried to rewatch it when USA aired it a few weeks ago, I really tried, but I had to switch the channel to something more uplifting, like Intervention ;)Oh why does that make me laugh in a "I know what you mean, sadly" sort of way? Could it be because ODOR really sucked? It must spell out the word "ODOR" for a reason, then.

Half-wit and ODOR was submit? Please, shot me if you gonna tell me that they also submit Top Secret... OD, OR, Top Secret and Fetal Position were all submitted for Emmy consideration in writing. I actually liked OD, OR more than most here, I think, and Top Secret had some good moments but was hardly the best of the season. Fetal Position managed to both suck and blow simultaneously as far as I was concerned. All this to say, I think they submitted the three weakest choices of the year for Emmy writing consideration. They could have only done worse by adding Airbourne into the mix.

OD, OR, Top Secret and Fetal Position were all submitted for Emmy consideration in writing. oh good god, those writing submittions are dreadful. There were much better episodes last season. No wonder there were no writing nominations.

LightMyCandle- 08-17-2007

OD, OR, Top Secret and Fetal Position were all submitted for Emmy consideration in writing. You're kidding, right? What were they thinking? There were five episodes this season that I could not stand and ODOR, and Fetal Position were two of them. I actually liked Top Secret, but it's not Emmy worthy, if you ask me, it was a fairly average episode.

Lully- 08-18-2007

OD, OR, Top Secret and Fetal Position were all submitted for Emmy consideration in writing. Oh, God! I think I'd be more happy if I could ignore that information... ODOR and best writing in the same line makes absolute no sense to me. Write a absurd amount of cliches is good writing? Sorry, but I'm still in shock...

Taiga- 08-18-2007

I disliked the writing in this ep too, and not because of the abuse thing. The way they treated Eve made no sense. She attempts suicide, but they don't put her on a psychiatric hold. They force her to talk about her rape - at least House pointed out the wrongthinking there. House browbeats her into getting an abortion, a woman already severely traumatized by having control of her body taken away from her. They all act as if it's a novel thing to treat a rape victim, when unfortunately it's something they would do pretty much every day. And don't get me started on the way Eve kept screeching "I was raped!"; honestly, is this how they think rape victims act? On a personal level I disliked it that they made the rape victim young, pretty, suicidal, assaulted by a stranger (I think), and infected with an STD and an unwanted pregnancy. The only cliches they didn't hit were giving her bruises and broken bones and revealing that she had been a virgin. In another thread we were discussing the revelation that House was abused by his father and whether it makes sense for the character. It makes sense to me if the abuse was what House described in OD, OR: a parent rigid in his beliefs of right and wrong who went too far in enforcing discipline, a father and son of two completely different personalities destined to clash and never understand each other. If it is brought up again I want some clarification because I'm sick of fans thinking Daddy House was this monster who regularly beat his son for the sheer sadistic pleasure of it and daily told little Greg that he hated him. THAT doesn't fit with House and with 'Daddy's Boy'.

TrooperCam- 08-18-2007

Okay, maybe I'm in the minority here, but House being an abuse survivor was pretty obvious to me from day one, and Daddy's Boy hinted strongly at it. As he would say, it fits the symptoms. ODOR might have been written poorly, but it's unrealistic to make a character that is just magically assholicious. I don't have a problem with the idea of House's being abused and as you say it is hinted that not all is well in Houseland as early as Daddy's Boy. I do like the idea that Hoiuse is the way he is just because he is a prickly asshole, overly intelligent, not socially adept with no further reason but if you look at this episode as the place for a reveal of a deeper reason then ODOR works. After all Eve's BS meter is pretty peaked. House tries to get around revealing anything about himself by saying it was his grandmother who did the deed but she doesn't let him get away with it. I think that people's dislike of Eve color the reveal and that is why a lot of people don't like the idea that House was abused.
