3.09 Finding Judas
From tv.com: House takes the case of a young girl who has been diagnosed with pancreitis. When he takes her divorced parents to court to force them to allow treatment because they can't agree, the judge awards guardianship of the girl to Cuddy. Meanwhile, Tritter continues his strategy to force House to admit to his drug use by offering one of the team members a deal.

From the Big Baby Thread: Chase did come up with the right answer in Finding Judas but he did so because Cameron wouldn't give up trying to find a different diagnosis (thankfully House did not beat it out of her in Acceptance). I think it's a big reach to credit Cameron with Chase's diagnosis in Finding Judas. If you give the credit to Cameron, you might as well give the credit to the guy who shoved the laser pointer up his behind because it was the laser pointer that gave Chase an epiphany. He had a House-like moment where all the pieces suddenly fit and it was triggered the laser pointer, not Cameron. He's a doctor too. His mind was just as filled with the case as Cameron's. He didn't suddenly think "it must be an allergy" because Cameron said they hadn't ruled it out. He'd been trying to convince House that it was an allergy when they were doing the allergy testing. Foreman agreed with him that the reaction looked like an allergy too. Foreman was the one who didn't want to get his retina fried. Does that mean he gets credit for Chase's epiphany too? I think giving Cameron credit for Chase's epiphany is like giving Wilson credit for House figuring out that the girl in Insensitive had a tapeworm. Afterall, if Wilson hadn't had a sandwich and asked House about eating his food, House never would have figured it out. No, House had an epiphany. Chase had an epiphany. Those are special moments where it all fits. It's what makes House House and Chase the one who learned all he could from House or nothing at all.

Chase gets the point for the right diagnosis. But Cameron is the one who wouldn't accept House's diagnosis and kept going over DDxs looking for a better one while both Chase and Foreman had accepted House's diagnosis and tried to shut her down. Chase even said "Little late to be playing differential games, isn't it?" It was after that that Foreman complained of Chase shining the laser pointer in his eyes and Chase got the diagnosis. In terms of the discussion about Big Baby and who would be better to replace Cuddy temporarily, it was suggested that Chase would be better than Cameron because he could make brilliant diagnoses like House does. Making brilliant diagnoses duplicates what House himself does and what his team should be doing. That's not a task for the person in charge. In terms of what is useful for the job, not agreeing with what House thinks and challenging him to come up with something better is a more useful trait than being able to get the diagnosis right IMO.

My issue with your statement wasn't about Cameron's tenacity or anything to do with her managing House, but the use of the word "because." Chase didn't get the epiphany because of Cameron. There was an entire set of circumstances to be factored in. Cameron was not the key to solving the case and saying "he did so because Cameron wouldn't give up" states that she was the key to his epiphany. I think there was a lot more to it than Cameron. For starters, his own belief that it was an allergy was probably one of the main reasons it finally dawned on him what allergy. All in all, this was one of the most brilliant episodes ever. I think the laser pointer was one of the most effectively used objects too. Who can forget House pointing out Wilson with the beam of light when the title was "Finding Judas"? The scene when Chase tried to get House to stop the surgery is one of my favorites from the series. Hugh and Jesse are both masters of subtle expressions and they can convey so much more than just the words they're saying when they interact. I'm still moved by the look on House's face when he realized he'd just punched Chase. I think he really scared himself. I miss the good old days. *sigh*

I just finished rewatching this on USA. Chase makes his sandwich, Wilson watches him, the scene cuts to Tritter and I turn off the TV. I just realized I've done this every time I've seen this episode after the first one. I cannot watch Wilson agree to help Tritter, no matter why he does it.

When a good friend of mine and I were watching it, we were pretty much screaming at him through the TV about it. I really like it, though. I love this ep :(
