I'm rewatching this episode right now... and, well, I’m not sure that people used this episode to ‘bash’ Wilson, exactly. This episode, though, started a trend of “Wilson’s misdiagnoses disease”… Which I find kind of funny, actually. Every time Wilson said: it’s cancer, I just knew it wasn’t, and the opposite it was also true. It was a plot device, everybody needed to be wrong so House could get his ‘eureka’ moment because no one was allowed at that time to be smarter than House. I don’t really like it, but the show has used worse shortcuts, so I can live with it. OTOH, as a viewer, engrossed in the story, with no knowledge of medical procedures, I did think it was strange that an Oncologist, a Department Chief, in a teaching hospital, would miss cancer after implying that he checked every organ on the patient’s body. I don’t care at what he was looking for (or what shoes he was wearing  ), he was adamant: it was not cancer. And he was wrong! I have no idea if it’s possible or not for an Oncologist to miss this kind of thing, but my feeling is that Wilson really seemed to drop the ball on this one. My personal fanon explains it as Wilson being too focus on House - as their conversation also shows – and so he missed the big (or the small) picture. It did not prove he was a bad professional, just that he made a mistake. Why this happened it was never explained in canon – because I guess it wasn’t important to the plot. Nevertheless, I think it was a great story!
