I'm watching this in rerun and there's something I hadn't noticed. Especially in the scene where Chase buys the boy a candy bar, his lips are astonishingly red, like scarlet lipstick, or perhaps I need a new TV. Creepy though...
 You do not need a new tv. There are occasions throughout Season One where they went a little overboard on Chase's makeup.
....
I alwayd did wonder if they had any particular reason for making Chase's dad Czech but it never came up again...so I guess not.
I assumed it was because they liked the actor so much they wrote his accent in.

They never said, but I fanwanked/ficwanked my own reasoning for the decision to go with Czech rather than French or Belgian ... namely that Rowan would have been the right age to emigrate following or during the Prague Spring, giving him an opportunity to re-invent himself in another country -- Australia. That then plays into Chase's decision to re-invent himself in the U.S. -- giving some depth as to why he'd so easily slip comfortably into a new life in another culture halfway around the world.

Though as we just noted, the actor is Belgian, not Czech.

And I'll fanwank further that his original name was more ethnic, Chasek or something, and he just shortened it to the snazzy, Western sounding Chase.
Interesting that House obviously respects Rowan as a doctor, when there are few MDs he obviously respects. Also in my "Wilson is totally not a bad doctor!" file there's the fact that Rowan went to see Wilson, so obviously Wilson has some notability in the world of oncology.
It's an interesting episode episode to watch again considering that at this point in the series there was no knowledge of House's relationship with his father.
